Photographers are talking about themselves in a NOLA photography exhibit
Running a risk here to find no interest at all. It might be there is one who finds value in it and will make the posting worth it.

When I don't have time to read everything I snap a photo and read it later. I cannot bring to you the magnificence of the photo exhibit, all black and white, the images approximately 18 x 24, of the aftermath of Katrina which choked me up, inspired me, and made me wonder about what the photographers said about their efforts.

For maybe that one of you out there...

1. Thank you for posting these, Mira
I was living in Mobile at the time and, man, what a storm. I ended up with RC folks giving out water, food and use of little Nokia cell phones at a civic center in a nearby town. Cots on the floor in the main area. Tons of people coming over from New Orleans.

They didn't shut that place down for at least five months.

2. I talked to a lot of folks, as I was able, while I was there just a little over a week ago.
It was illuminating, wrenching and inspiring.
It was like poking a hot button: "Where were you, and what are you willing to tell me..."
I learned about the Super Dome, and also the Astro Dome. The desk clerk of my hotel kept me from an entire tour I had scheduled after I poked that hot button. She had a one bedroom near the Astro Dome in Houston, because she had saved 2000 dollars. She also had 17 relatives in that bedroom with her.

I met folks who say they still go off the deep end when it starts to rain hard.
The limbic (sp?) system very slowly forgets trauma. My town was hit by 5 tornadoes on May 5 1989. I was here. I would seek shelter for years when I saw trees bend from the wind. I understand a tiny bit.

I see I'm rambling.
It's good you found this post of interest. Thank you.

3. Where was this?
I just moved away from NOLA a few months ago after 5 years. There are some great photographers and artists there. For many, Katrina really did affect their works.

Thanks for sharing.

4. At Jackson Square
A Museum directly at the opposite side of where the horses and buggies park. Three exhibits. An exhibit about the Katrina disaster specifically, then one of the photographs, and one of Mardi Gras costumes and paraphernalia. Which reminds me, there was a costume made of blue tarp.
