*** August Contest - Theme Suggestion Thread *** |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 11:55 PM by HappyCynic
The July contest is done so it's time to start the next contest. I don't have a schedule finalized, as I have to make sure the monthly contest doesn't conflict with the Summer contest. The seasonal contests are typically done earlier in the month so my preliminary schedule is as follows:
Theme selection: now-8/4 (give or take a day) - a few days for the suggestions, a few days for the poll Submissions: 8/16-8/22 (or when 30 entries are received) Preliminaries: 8/24-8/27 Finals: 8/28-8/30
This should give you all almost 2 weeks between the theme announcement and submissions. Of course, some of that may be shooting for the Summer contest so it still may not be as much time as you'd like.
It's my first time hosting, so I plan on having open submissions instead of blind submissions. This will give me fewer things I can screw up (although I'm sure I'll make mistakes anyways).
For the theme, I'm looking for suggestions. I'll probably pick 7 or 8 of the suggestions posted, add 2 or 3 of my own, and post a poll. (If I can't think of any good ones to add, I'll go with 10 from the suggestions.)
So, what creative ideas for a theme do you have?

9. Yup. Water was done not too long ago. |

regnaDkciN won it, I came in second, and ran the contest for him because he was up for "Spring" or "Winter".

4. I'm OK with all of them so far except Sports, that one I would |
|
have to sit out for the first time ever. LOL>
How about: A B/W favorite, any subject, old or new. We have not done B/W exclusive to my knowledge in my almost 3 years here.
or: Roads, that one just popped into my mind.

12. Do a B&W portrait of the neighborhood trollop or lothario. |
|
You can count on them to be good "sports."

Mythology -- This might be difficult, but there are ways to do it.
A bird's eye view -- pics taken from a high vantage point (rooftops, planes, cherrypicker, tree, etc.)
States of the Union -- pics representing the photographer's take on his/her state (or any state). "State" means physical ones, such as Oklahoma, New York, Idaho, etc.
Not what it seems to be -- photos that are one thing, but appear to be something else or could be seen that way.
One of these things is not like the others -- disruption in patterns
Birds -- I think one is pretty easy to figure out. :)
A bug's life -- close ups of insects
If anything isn't clear, I can give a photo example.
Congrats on your win.
