Would you pay $20.00 per month to hang a piece in a gallery? |
|
My friend's husband has found an art gallery in Port Orchard, WA that charges artist $20.00 per month per piece to hang it in their gallery. This is in 'downtown' Port Orchard, right on the waterfront of the bay across from Bremerton, WA., which has a huge navy shipyard. My friend thinks this is very expensive, but her husband thinks it's a great idea. I'm considering hanging one piece there and rotating new work every month. What do you all think?

(but I'm generally against the idea)
Do they do good business/ and have a good reputation? Website to link to? Would whoever works there take an active role in selling for you? Do they also take a cut of what the picture sells for? Do they advertise to art buyers more than artists? Do they have the traffic your art would most likely appeal to? Do you like the quality of the other art there? - Do they accept any art as long as someone pays them 20 bucks a month? Would your picture be presented well and prominently, or is the gallery a hard to navigate chaotic maze?
Do you think you'd have more success paying the gallery or finding a restaurant(or similar) to hang your picture for free? Have you contacted local interior decorators and made them aware of kind of stuff you do?

4. Yep. You've asked all the right questions |

Good list, greyl.
I'd also like to know if the artists has to agree to a certain number of months or if this contract is on a month-by-month basis. How well advertized is this gallery? And if they take a cut on each picture sold, for what percentage do they ask?

2. I tried a craft store once. I had my own space. I think it was about |

6x6. Costs $80 a month. There are outlet stores here in Central Florida. Anyone can rent a spot. They start at around $150 a month. So depending on how many you want to hang, doesn't sound too expensive to me.
