did you ever "finish" a painting...
and something is not quite right, but you don't know what it is. It buts the hell out of me. I've been staring at one I did yesterday and don't know what it is missing yet.

1. Of course...
who doesn't do that?

I only have 2 or 3 paintings that I would really say are finished... and even then, "finished" tends to mean "trying to improve it anymore would just screw up something else."

2. Do you ever turn it upside down or
look at it in the mirror?
Sometimes that helps me see the area or thing that doesn't quite fit.

when I saw your title about ever finishing a painting...I was gonna say yeah, as long as I don't look at it again ...otherwise I see one more thing I could change

3. Sometimes it's good to walk away from it for a while.
This almost always gives me a more accurate idea of what's "off" in one of my paintings. :hi:

4. knowing when you are done
is the hardest part. i heard somewhere that artists have snuck into the louvre to add one more little touch to a painting. may be apocryphal, but i can see doing it.
i'm pretty good, tho. once i sign it, i'm done. i just hate it, is all.

6. Someone once said...
Art is never finished, only abandoned.
