any tips for cleaning jewelry? |
|
I have a gold ring with a small diamond and sapphire. It looks very dull. I wear it every day, wash dishes with it on, etc. Is there a non-toxic way to clean a ring with something likely to be found in my house?
thanks! b_b

2. Would Windex or the like do the trick? |
|
Aren't those ammonia-based? Of course ingredients are rarely on the bottles these days. Proprietary, y'know.
Thanks for the tip..

5. Toothpaste works great. I've used it on Silver, Gold and Platinum |
|
it stinks a whole lot less than those commercial cleaning solutions, and it's alot less expensive, and it takes the tarnish right off!!!

4. wash sapphires & diamonds |
|
in an equal mixture of hot (NOT boiling-you should be able to dip your fingers in without pain) water & ammonia. Let the piece soak for a few minutes, brush gently with a toothbrush-use your partners-rinse well then pat dry.
Diamonds absolulely attract grease, hand lotions, make-up etc. They can get really grimy really fast & not sparkle. The mix of ammonia & water works particularly well for them.
Most jewelery can be cleaned using just a very mild soap -like ivory soap flakes.
Beware of ultrasonic cleaners for facture-filled diamonds, opals, pearls, etc. In fact, I would stay away from all ultrasonic cleaners.
