so we installed an EconoHeater yesterday in the bathroom, then |
|
had to run to town directly after. I made dinner and watched some TV and then went in to look again and it was HOT in there. DH hadn't checked the switch and left it on  but they work great and take paint well http://www.eheat.com/index.phphere's an old thread on them by DUers http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=353&topic_id=279&mesg_id=279and my paint is baked on that new wall!

1. I'm getting one for our enclosed front porch |
|
Currently, we have one of those electric, oil filled radiators on wheels. That rad takes up floor space, so this sleek heater will make a big difference.

3. Well, at least you know it works! That sounds like something I |
|
would do! You're place is phenomenal. You should start a home design/contracting business, just kidding, I know how hard the work is!
I really like the splash guard in the kitchen, that top border is awesome!

4. thanks! but I didn't pick the tiles, I just had to find a grout to work |
|
with them all.
I think I should start a "designed to sell" biz since we sold our home in PHX the first weekend for full price when the rest of the market is down 26%
I just posted new pics too on another thread.

5. AZ I have spoken to you before (remember the wall tiles to keep |
|
cool!). I know the beautiful job you did in AZ. You know a lot of people (me included) need help to expand our views in home remodeling. I know there are tv shows but they are generic in nature.
You could start a side consulting company to assist us nervous nellies in widening our design techniques. I think Wild (don't remember they rest of the name) also has a great eye for design.
I know that HD and others have design centers to assist but they are also interested in promoting the store product. It's just a thought for you, to earn a little extra on the side.

but it is fun to start playing with color on the walls and seeing how far you can take a place without spending a dime. that has been part of the fun of a new house, remixing all our stuff that we had in the old house in whole different ways :)

7. Cool! I was checking them out awhile ago |
|
Yours looks great. I'd like to get one for our spare bathroom. It doesn't have any heat. I'm wondering, do you really get the savings on energy that they say? Electric is expensive in California.

8. check the other thread in the frugal group ( i think i linked it) politica |
|
put a tester on them and they do draw what they say (400 watts) and they claim $0.03 per hour (it'll be less for me since my electricity is a little cheaper than what they are using as a base they don't get the room really hot, usually 68-72 is the average here's the link for the long thread from last winter http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=353&topic_id=279&mesg_id=279

11. Electricity isn't cheap here, either. |
|
We're at about $.12 a kilowatt hour. (National average is $0.08 per kWh)
Our electric bills were around $55 a month last year, and gas was about $75. (They're combined, so I have to average.)
The eheaters raise the temp in a room about 8-10 degrees. So if the hallway was 62 (where I keep the thermostat in winter), our bedroom and offices ran about 70-72.
We were also running an electric treadmill about 2 hours a day as well as several laptops, a microwave, etc.
