Let's face it: while there is definitely some overlap, remodeling a bathroom and laying floors are quite a bit different from crocheting an afghan or sewing a dress. We'd like to propose the formation of a new group, a Crafts Group, to include all crafts such as sewing, needlework, paper crafts, felting, doll making, knitting, and crocheting, to name a few, that is separate from the DIY Group.
If this group is successful, we would suggest changing the name of the DIY group to "DIY and Home Improvement Group." We don't think such a change would detract from the DIY Group but might attract more participation in the Crafts Group from those who are strictly interested in crafts.
So what do you think? Any interest? Suggestions? Complaints? :)
Thanks!

1. It seems to make sense to me. |
|
I think many crafters don't find the group as it is. I think a crafts group might attract more crafters than the DIY group does.

This is a wonderful idea!
It will give crafters a great place to share ideas and ask question. It would also be a great place to learn about different crafts that we may have wanted to try but haven't yet.
I'm all for it and thanks to both Longhorn and Eleny for taking the time to try and make it happen.
Cheers :toast:

I'm not sure how I found this group anyways, but a strictly craft group may attract some more DUers.

I don't knit but I like other fiber arts stuff. The sari yarn is beautiful. I'd like to use some for sewing onto fabric in free form sewing collages. And I bet it would look lovely crocheted or used for tassels.

Just another reason we really need this group.

21. Not yet. I emailed Skinner yesterday. |
|
I had previously sent the request to the admin mailboxc and then EarlG. So I emailed Skinner just in case the request got lost in the shuffle. With Skinner's new baby, Hillary's announcement, the SOTU, Kerry's announcement, the coming and going of the block function . . . anyway, I will sure and let y'all know when I hear something! :)

After 30 years I've just gotten back into macrame'. I've been doing some of the traditional 70's stuff for the boho look but I'm in the process of updating my style to something more refined and I'm delighted with the results.
Sorry, didn't mean to get sidetracked but yes, I would definitely be interested.

We should hear from the admins any day now about the new group and will send you a PM as soon as we get the word.
About your macrame style - I've been reading a good number of crafting blogs since early last year. Seems like there's a strong interest in the craft styles of the 1970s. A real resurgence. The young crafters look for the craft books from the '70s and even the new fabric designs reflect this. Being 60 myself, it's fun to see this. Makes me feel contemporary!

and I agree there is a difference even though many who are interested in one are often interested in the other.
