Need clever ideas, can anyone help?

Mt daughter has a fireplace with marble surround. She wants to somehow attach Jamb hooks to the marble to lean her fire tools against. She does not want to drill into the marble. Any clever ideas that might work to hold the jamb hooks? They are like the middle one on top row of the link.(round backplate)

1. Obviously some sort of adhesive.....

Something not permanent like construction adhesive or epoxy - those would work but you would never get them off without damaging OR staining the marble.

Since it won't be meant to carry the weight of the tools I think plain old latex caulk or clear 100% silicone might work. The 100% silicone is probably your best bet for strength but I wonder about the chemical residue on the marble.

Do they make a "clear" latex? I don't recall ever seeing it. If so, that would be ideal from the "stain" aspect. Even white latex probably won't cause a problem. That stuff is pretty benign and it scrapes off easily. It will leach water out and temporarily change the marble when the marble gets wet.

Either way, you will have to tape them up with painter's tape for 24 hours till the silicone dries.

Is there any way you can test a spot for potential staining?

2. Or high strength super glue

Like a powerful adhesive that that requires just a pin head amount as per the directions. Must work on metal to ceramic tiles or marble or stone. Heat resistant might help. They make epoxy in clear. You know drilling would be better don't you. I know it's a hard thing to part with the effect, I install the stuff !There is a clear 100 per cent silicone adhesive sold where caulk is. It is a adhesive caulk. The marble will buff out when you remove those hooks . And if you use high strength super glue, you would have to carefully remove those hooks by prying gently,than with a razor scrapper,remove the super glue ,than buff. A little lacquer thinner will remove the residue ,than wipe it off right away. Do not forget ,marble is stone. It is durable. !

What if you got a decorative strip of wood, painted to to match or blend with the marble,fastened the jamb hooks to the deco strip of wood and than used yer silicone adhesive to fasten the deco addition to the marble ? You would be looking at designer moldings at HD or Lowe's or a place that specializes in designer molding's.
Something really really far out cool looking !You might even hunt around in flee markets for something very cool that would be perfect ! Paint it with a high gloss or semi gloss enamel .

And of course there is sticky things, valve crow or what ever ,you know the new wave stuff ! Actually that might work !The lacquer thinner removes the residue, or goof off does. You wipe it down right away with a damp clean rag than buff it out with a dry clean rag . It's a procedure, But your marble finish is not damaged.

I never tell them what my methods are where it come to that sort of thing, and they don't ask because they don't want to know ! What they do know is I got ways,or we all do !

I used a construction adhesive to add oak molding to a fire place base I did in marble black marble ,painted the oak trim in a enamel gloss black. Used lacquer thinner to clean up the excess glue, right away,and some dry stuff the next day. It did not hurt or effect the finish on the marble. I used 12" by 12 " marble tiles,the client did not want to special order bull nose's ,had a four inch rise so there were four inch cuts around the perimeter and trimmed it in with oak ,looks great.By the way the heat from the tile cutting blade does not hurt th finish either ! Point being I don't baby the stuff on the install.But you do have to know how to handle it.

3. If the hooks aren't going to be supporting much weight,

The link is to something called Command Picture Hanging Strips. You can get them at Lowe's and Home Depot, and they are cheap (under $5). You can cut them to size as well. The stick on securely, and the adhesive leaves no residue. You can peel them off and reposition them with no problem. They work sort of like velcro, but are much stronger.

I had a similar problem where I wanted to hang a medallion on the granite and tile wall behind the sink in my kitchen. I also didn't want to drill holes, and in my case, wanted to be able to take it down easily to clean it and clean behind it, so I had to think "outside the box." This solution worked perfectly. The medallion stays put, and I've had no problems whatsoever with using this product on my granite and tile surface.

If it didn't work for her, there would be no damage to the marble, and she'd be out less than 5 bucks to try it out.
