Does anybody here build websites or customize templates?
I'm looking to build a travel site, but don't have the "know how" to do it.

Here's a template that I'd like something similar to: http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/11203....

I'd like to to function very much like this: http://www.atlantisevents.com /

Can this be done at a modest cost, or am I dreaming?

1. It's the "under the hood" details that matter...

...Meta Tags, Alt Tags, the whole array of things that make your site friendly to the search engines. You don;t get these from a template. You get them from a Web Designer.

I design all of my Web Sites from scratch. I used the templates, initially, to teach myself some of the nuances of CSS and HTML.

But a template has always looked like a template to me.

In Silicon Valley, a 5-page "Starter Site" a real Web Site, not a tweaked template...runs about $500-$650, depending on the number of pages and elements used.

I don't know if that's modest or not. I currently have a $25,000 bid in for an e-commerce site, and a mid-range $2,500 project underway. I've also done my fair share of the previously mentioned "starter" sites.

I believe in the old adage that you get what you pay for. I looked at your Atlantis link. If you can give me your definition of modest, I can give you more feedback.

2. Well, I jumped in with both feet after posting here
and placed an ad on Elance. I accepted a bid from a team with good feedback and am almost finished with the site. I don't think it's bad for what I paid ($1,000). Now I've got to work on content.
