Do you believe this exists? I have a four year old that I feel may be an Indigo child. What are your thoughts on this?

1. Yes.
I've taught several. I have a 5 year-old grandson who fits the bill.

If you do a search, you can find some discussion in the archives of the Astrology, etc. group; we talked about this quite a bit last year!

4. Let me put it this way:

"Indigo Children" is an idea born of profit motive, much like "Left Behind" and "I'll wear a bow tie on TV to claim a special niche of talking head celebrity".
Its sales pitch is nearly indistinguishable from that of vague astrological horoscopes and cold reading technigues.

If you please, look at the characteristics of an Indigo Child, as marketed by Hay House, and imagine it was a personalized horoscope:

* They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it)
* They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that.
* Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parents "who they are."
* They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).
* They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
* They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don't require creative thought.
* They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like "system busters" (nonconforming to any system).
* They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.
* They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did").
* They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

I mean come on. Hand that list to a thousand people, and see how many say "Yep, that's me".

It should be clear that the Indigo Child business is preying on a consumer base which doesn't think critically.

Not to mention how the first characteristic: "They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it)" shows a disgusting ignorance of the fact that there are several thousand cultures in the world, most of which have no concept of "royalty". What progressive thinker gives a crap about royalty? http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=royalty

"Indigo Children" is not a cosmic phenomenon. It is an amoral, capitalistic, deceptive, consumer fraud.

If you think your child is special, great, nurture them. Teach them about critical thinking.
Be an Indigo Parent.

7. Hi, jeanarrett
There is another forum where we occasionally discuss Indigos. It's an interesting topic. Here are links to those threads:

I didn't even know this forum existed until I saw the thread posted on a site that loves to make fun of us. So I want to make sure and say thanks! :hi:
