The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute

1. When's it coming out?

its been out in Japan for around 2 weeks x(

3. I've heard it

I would give it 7.5 out of 10. The first three tracks (Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus, The Widow, and L'Via L'Vasquez) are fucking awesome, but past "Miranda, the ghost that isn't holy anymore" and all 8 of "Cassandra Gemini"'s movements, it sort of lost me. Despite that, some of the movements (which are broken into 8 tracks) aren't all that bad.

Another thing about it is that it's more like The Mars Volta and less like At The Drive-In, so to speak. They're about a far away from ATDI as they've ever gotten with this record. Not necessarily a good or bad thing, though.

Also, there is another 12-inch single that's being released at the same time Frances The Mute is, and it has just one song on it - "Frances The Mute". It's being marketed as a "Decoder" for the album. It's really not that great, though...it's really not all that necessary to crack the story on this (which is a tad confusing) and it's 15 minutes of pretty much nothing.

4. id rate it higher than that

but that's just my opinion. actually, "Frances The Mute" might be my favorite track from the album. The few minutes of noise at the beginning really set the mood for the dramatic ending.

and yes, "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" is amazing. i hope they can somehow get it onto the radio.
