Without a doubt, my favorite band. Anyone else?

1. I only have Mars Audiac Quintet
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 09:48 PM by tuvor

but I can tell you it's a great album.

What else by them is worth getting? (And I mean *really* worth it. The nearest place to get Stereolab music for me would probably be a ferry ride to Vancouver away.)

2. Some goodies...
Emperor Tomato Ketchup
Dots and Loops
Aluminum Tunes
Cobra and Phases
First of the Microbe Hunters

Pretty much everything from MAQ and beyond is utterly FAB. Then once that stuff sinks in, try the pre-MAQ stuff...harder to get into, but still just as lovely. Also, most of their singles contain true gems as well. They are not to be overlooked, seriously.

Thanks for replying. I was beginning to wonder if anyone ever checked over here.

4. You might want to also post in the Electronic Music Group.
Seems just as appropriate, dont'cha think? ;)

Having said that, it's pretty dead in there, too. :(

Thanks for the list, by the way!

3. A warning though...
they have the potential to turn into an obsession. I got into them in '98 and my obsession has not even come close to fading.

Instant 0 in the Universe (ep) is another really good one to check out.

6. Oh, and one other thing...
There are about as many opinions about what their best material is as there are fans...they're that diverse.

Okay, I'll leave you alone now...maybe.

5. Ah, a band I've been meaning to check out
If you had to pick ONE album of theirs for me to try out, what would it be?

8. So tough.
That's like asking me which of my limbs I'd like removed.

My introduction to them was Aluminum Tunes. I had that album for about a year before I fully realized the genius.

Lots of people think Emperor Tomato Ketchup is their seminal album. It's good, but not my favorite.

There are also a lot of people who would tell you to go with Dots and Loops...they sort of went off on an electronic thing with that one. Very good.

Their most recent is really good too: Margerine Eclipse.

Just pick one and don't give up on it 'til you love it.

9. See if you can find Instant 0 in the Universe...
If you don't love that lovely slab of tunes, there's something wrong with you.

11. Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 02:18 AM by Kazak
So fucking good man. Goes a bit wanky about two thirds of the way through, but aside from that...seriously quality and ends up nicely too.

With a smile

Trumpets and drums

The desire

For meaning comes

Get this album...I promise you will not be disappointed.

12. If anyone would like to receive a free copy of this album...
simply go http://www.stereolab.co.uk/forum>here, read the thread (should be on the front page) entitled "The Cobra has landed" and follow the directions. Just a heads up, but better hurry 'cos it's first come first serve and there's only one to give.

I'd love to turn someone here on to THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!!

Edit: Backstory, someone sent me (completely free of charge) the vinyl version of this album (which contains an extended version of one of the tracks), plus I alread own the Japanese import CD version (which has a few bonus tracks) AND the standard US version (which is now somewhat extraneous), so I'd love to give someone this extra copy and turn someone on to the band. All you have to do is send me an email to dnhf23@yahoo.com, first come first serve...but please, only if you don't already own the CD.

15. Oscillons from the Anti-Sun
They've just realeased a very reasonably priced box set, with the above mentioned title, containing three CDs compiling all of their various EPs, and a DVD with videos, live performances, etc... Very nice package. The perfect opportunity to check them out if anyone is interested, as some of their best material was released on these EPs, and the DVD is nice as well.

16. HELL YES!!
I picked that up the same day Nine Inch Nails' new disc came out. Paid $20 for 4 discs full of wonderful music.

Worth every penny!
