I saw some wonderful birds on our recent trip to San Francisco |
|
haven't downloaded the pix as yet.
We saw Western gulls, pelagic cormorants (at least that's what my bird book seemed to think), cliff swallows and I think orange crowned warblers.
I wish we had been closer to the actual ocean, though, and been able to see more shore birds...

1. The bay side is actually better for shorebirding |
|
But it sounds like you had a good trip! :D

A lot of the birds we saw were while we were on the various ferries.
whoops, I think I misread your post. So you are saying that the bay is better than the ocean. Interesting.

5. Are you talking about shorebirds, like sandpipers, |
|
or shore birds, like gulls?
Mmmm.... bay might be better for both. :)

6. well, I'm from Pittsburgh, so we don't see much of either on the river here! |

the occasional gull is pretty much it, except during migration. I know folks here were psyched in the spring to see a lot of birds not typical for here, on the river.
I was thinking more about sandpipers and plover and terns. But actually in SF we saw terns, and pelicans, and gulls. I tend to think of shore as ocean - like Eastern beaches...
Hmm, I guess the protected atmosphere of the bay would be more hospitable... in any case the bay is a worderful environment.

I absolutely hate trying to upload anything from iPhoto, because navigating to your folder is not intuitive. It's one thing that I prefer to do on a PC.

8. yeah last time I tried to do it, it balked in a very weird way |
|
I couldn't help thinking that I had unwittingly uploaded all my vacation pix to the Mod forum. ;)
I was hoping you more experienced folks could tell me if I was correct about the cormorants I saw and the gulls. I'll just have to beg my husband (the tech geek) to help me figure out how to upload em.
