Crossing my fingers for Ohio bird #300 this weekend
Going out with my birding group on Saturday, and White-winged Crossbills are the main target. We had a winter finch invasion last year, but with only one White-winged Crossbill reported. This winter, we've had a major invasion, with White-winged Crossbills reported from all over, sometimes in the hundreds. If we see some on saturday, that will be my 300th bird for Ohio, which is the big "Milestone" number for the state.

I may even go over 300, depending on where we go and how lucky we area - there's some Black-headed Gulls hanging around, and there was one Harlequin Duck up at Cleveland (there was, until some damn hunter blew it out of the water). There's still Pomarine Jaegers around too.

2. I could could actually take off early today and see some White-winged Crossbills
but I think I want to share seeing Ohio 300 with friends (even if it means I buy everyone a drink, as is the custom in our group for this particular milestone).

8. There will be more!
Here in Wisconsin W-w Crossbills moved rapidly out of the Central part of the state and are now found by the 100's in the SE part of the state and may well be moving further.
