I baby sit for my great grandson and want to put a bird area in front
of the one window he can look out of. The area is about 6"X6" and is not private. I would like to put a feeder on a pole and a bird bath - anything else you can think of? Also there are already squirrels in the area - how do I handle that. Would a separate feeder help? Maybe their own ears of corn? The other thing I would like to put in that area is a blueberry bush and some kind of butterfly house or feeder? Need help.

1. I have a lot of squirrels too
and putting out a feeder for them (ears of corn) didn't persuade them to stay away from the bird feeder at all and only attracted more. The only thing that kept them off of the bird feeder was a squirrel baffle similar to this:

Your idea of food and water are the most important. I would ask someone at a local nursery to help recommend plants/flowers for hummingbirds and butterflies for your area. I wouldn't put plants too dense re: outdoor cats can hide in dense vegetation and attack the birds. I hope this helps some and have fun setting up your great grandson's window!

2. Thank you. That is good advice. There are some cats in the neighborhood.
I'll find some other place for my blueberry bush.
