Sat 5/21/05 workout thread.
I went running 4.5 miles again. Wow, it sure is getting hotter out there every day. I notice this weekend that the temperature is really affecting my endurance. It's probably mid-80's out there when I'm running, and no shade either. I keep pushing myself, but it's definitely more challenging now than it was a few weeks ago.

I'll be moving to a new place in a little under two weeks and then I will finally be able to use an indoor treadmill again. The gym at my current apartment complex had been closed for over two months now (very annoying) due to renovations. The pool, jacuzzi, and tennis courts have also been closed for over a month now. Luckily, we are allowed to use the pool at the complex next door because it is owned by the same leasing company, but not being able to use the gym for so long sucks. It will be nice to be able to run inside with A/C again and also be able to lift some weights. I haven't been able to do any weight exercises for over two months now. I'll probably still run outside a few days every week, but I'd also like to use the treadmill on some of the really hot days too.

1. Ran 2 miles and did some ab works.
I ran about 10 am and it was hot! I'm going to keep it up though. If it gets too hot for running, I may substitute some cycling..but I insist on being outside. I'm not a member of a gym.

2. I've been sick this week and today's my first day back to feeling
almost normal. But I've been making plans to try to bicycle before school starting next week. I'd love to commute but the highway I have to take is just too dangerous -- at least, for me! So I thought I'd bring my bike and ride at the Veloway before I have to be at work at noon. The issue is cleaning up afterwards as it is just too far out of the way to come back home. There is no shower on my campus and it will often be in the 90s when I ride. :( So I'm going to try cleaning up with baby wipes and either rinsing my hair or wearing it in a ponytail.

I'd ride after work by I won't be getting off until 8 p.m. this summer. By the time I change and get to the Veloway, I don't think I'll have enough light. Even if I could ride at night, it's not allowed at the Veloway. I could ride in my neighborbood but it is so hilly that it is just not fun and I know I won't do it. The reason cycling is such a great exercise for me is that I enjoy it so much so I don't want to ruin it by turning it into torture!

So wish me luck! :D

3. I ran my 5K race!
I came in dead last (of the runners) but I knew that's what was going to happen anyway.

My official time was 44:35. I'm perfectly happy with that. I ran the whole thing and I'm proud of that.

I had a good time.

Gongratulations! It's a good feeling isn't it?

On edit: I think a "race walker" or two finished before me in my 5k.

5. almost all of the walkers finished before me
there were 4 who did not.

(Of course, they had a 15 minute head start)

6. Cool.
I'd like to do a race some time. Right now, I know I could very easily finish a 5k race in 23 minutes based on my current workouts. I usually run about 4.5 miles, 6 days a week. It normally takes me about 33 to 34.5 minutes to run that distance, an average speed of about 8 mph. I might be able to finish better than that if I pushed myself. Also, I've never tried specifically running just 5k. That is shorter than 4.5 miles. I tend to run for endurance and not speed. I haven't really been concentrating on speed at all. I think when I get to use a treadmill again I'm going to see if I can do 10 mph for 3.11 miles (which is 5 km). I might not be able to do it at first, but we'll see. I know I can do 10 mph for 1 mile pretty easily. I've never tried maintaining that speed for 3 miles before. If I can do that, then I could probably do a 5k in 18.5 minutes, which would be a decent time for a woman. There's a 4th of July race that I think I might enter. I always run by myself, so it would be weird to run with a bunch of other people.

7. You did it!
Congratulations! :toast:

I had a weekend class, so I did a light workout: The step portion of Jane Fonda's Step & Stretch.
