Thurs. 6/16 Did you work out today?
I did although not very well. I ran 2 miles but allowed myself to stop and walk twice. I felt unusually weak. I'm afraid I may be spreading myself a little too thin. Had a planning meeting lastnight ( www.beaucoupblues.com ) and ended up being too busy to get dinner. That may have been why.

Anyway, I'm doing a pretty good job of sticking with my new plan this week.

1. Don't over do it. It's better to take a day of rest then to push
yourself so hard you cannot work out for weeks.

I worked out. Did my kick boxing work out, pilates & yoga.

2. Yes, I did
I saw my doctor today about my umbilical hernia. She doesn't want to have it repaired until I lose a little more weight because she thinks that the hernia repair can be done at the same time as a tummy tuck and she doesn't want the tummy tuck done just yet. Twenty more lbs. O.K., I can live with that.

She has also told me not to run every day. So today I got one of the guys at the fitness center to show me how to use the ellipical machine. I think I'll be ok on that. I was on it for 15 minutes. I know I can do it for longer, so I'm sure I can get my cardio in on this machine.

He also helped me with some exercises for my knee (which has been giving me trouble lately).

So the plan now is to run on M-W-F and do upperbody machines after my run, and then on T-Th I'll use the elliptical and then work the exercises that he showed me for my knees.

The pool here on campus is closed for repairs, but when it opens I'm going to try to get some swimming in at least once per week.

Anyway, today, I did 15 minutes on the elliptical and then worked w/ the trainer to strengthen my knees.

3. Sounds like good advice.
That eliptical machine will probably give you just as good of a cardio workout with lower impact. If I had access to one, I'd certainly use it. I'm too cheap to join a gym though.

Did she say the hernia was caused by running?

Your plan sounds great. 20 more lbs to go, I'm pulling for ya!

4. no, I re-injured the hernia when I had my WLS
When the doc tells you nothing more than 10 lbs.... he means it!

I was actually born w/ the hernia, it healed on its own, then when I was pregnant, it ruptured. I had it repaired about 4 years ago when the doc removed my gall bladder, but then re-ruptured it when I was healing from WLS.

I'm losing very slowly now, which is fine. I think I should be down 20 more lbs. within 6 months. (I could probably lose it faster, but I'm trying to be realistic).

5. Sorry you can't run every day.
That's a bummer, after you'd built up to the great level you're at. And those elliptical machines always felt weird to me. But I've heard they're great pieces of cardio equipment. Good luch with your knee! :-)

Today I did Cardio + Weights, plus some extra upper body toning.

8. Daily bicycle commute.
I'm getting more efficient every day, not just riding but getting my gear together, cleaning up and changing, etc. And today is the first day I didn't anticipate the ride with butterflies in my stomach (which I never understood anyway because I wasn't really nervous or anything. )
