Help! Need advise about running |
|
Hi everyone! Let me start out by saying I was a cross-country runner in
high school, but haven't run even one step since then, which was four
years ago. I was wondering if any of you had any advise on how to ease
myself back into running? Should I start out walking first and then
gradually progress to jogging? Or should I start jogging right away and
just try to increase my distance each time? I can't remember how my
cross-country coach started us out so I came here for knowledge. Any
help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jared

1. I would start our brisk walking the first week |

then keep that up and add a short jog here and there. Then after a month or two try to get a solid jogging pace. I found it very difficult to start running after a long layoff. It takes alot more time than I thought it would. Also, I'm sure you already know this from school but buy good shoes from a running store for your running style. It made a world of difference for me. Good luck.

2. check out John Bingham's website |

www.waddleon.com
Under the pull-down menu labelled "The Penguin" there's a section on "Getting Started"
I find this guy to be very inspiring. I had never run on purpose in my life before this March. I'm very slow, but I run anyway... because this guy taught me to enjoy the run itself, not winning races, and not beating any pre-conceived notion of how fast I should be. I run to enjoy the run.
Good luck!
