George Ryan sentenced to 6 1/2 years |
|
Its a shame that this republicon only got 6 1/2 years. I'm from Illinois and this just ticks me off. If anyone who's not a politician was found guilty of 20 counts or racketeering and fraud, they would of gotten the max (20 years).
In his truck driving license scandal a driver that got their license illegally, six children died!! Thats six people, just small children, that he directly caused the death of. How do you do these horrible things and only get six years.
He will most likely get paroled in 2 years. This is a sad day for the people of Illinois.

3. i agree with some of what you say, BUT |

come on. George was not driving that truck, nor did he personally issue the illegal CDL for the guy who had a part fall off and ignite the minivan behind him. The Illegal CDL did NOT cause the accident. The Gov (as secstate) did NOT cause the accident. A metal part fell off a truck driven by a guy, it bounced, cracked open the gas tank and burned 6 kids to death. A tragedy, to be sure. But did George kill them? no.
Now, that being said, his was a criminal enterprise, of that there is no doubt. Then again, Bloggo is as bad as George, and I would not be suprised if he suddenly finds himself with a similar sentence.
George did one good thing. He cleared the books on the death penalty and created a commission to fix the legal system. everything else? yeah, he deserves jail time. the old boys network in our state is so effin corrupt that it is sickening.

So if I sold a gun to a guy on the corner, and he gave it to his brother, who shot you and your friends, Im not responsible at all.
If so there are alot of people in prison for that.

6. oh really? name one. seriously |

you are mixing citrus fruit with other kinds.
Tell me how Georgie (who I despise, by the way, and am glad he is heading to the hoosgow) managed to force that clerk's supervisor's manager's boss to take a bribe, insure that the person got his CDL, and made sure that his truck had a piece of metal ready to fall off MONTHS AFTER HE GOT THE CDL!. AND how did George make sure that that piece of metal would fly off, hit a minivan's tank and cause it to explode.
Come on. You say a lot of things that make sense, but this is such a stretch that it weakens your message.

Ryan, who served as secretary of state from 1991 to 1999, has said he knew there was a culture of corruption in the secretary of state's office.
That is from CNN. Knowing about something and not doing anything about it makes you responsible.
Take in this -- Law suits Say McDonalds is aware the floor is slippery and does nothing about it. They will have to pay if someone gets hurt. The owners pay even though they didn't do it themselves, or they were even anywhere near the scene.

8. property laws are slightly different than |
|
the connection between an illegal CDL, a driver driving MONTHS LATER, then having something fall out of his truck. Proximate cause is still a requirement in Illinois. If you own property, you have certain duties. You also have to have either actual or constructive notice that THIS PARTICULAR DEFECT exists. Without notice, the Mac's franchise owner gets summary judgment. EVERY SINGLE TIME.
You know not of what you speaketh. I do this shit for a living. Georgie had nothing to do with those deaths, and the best thing that the fed judge did was to issue a bunch of limine orders preventing the US atty from making the connection with the 6 kids' deaths, then barring the dad from testifying at the penalty phase. Otherwise, the sentence would have been overturned and Ryan, the creep that he is, would be walking free.

Even though you say you're not you sound like you support Ryan. Even if we throw out the whole license scandal, there is a lot more of corruption and fraud. Why are you arguing with me in the first place, unless you think the state has been hard on Ryan.

11. I am sorry that I bothered to even answer your post. |
|
a complete waste of time.
you haven't a clue of what you speak. Your blather is emotional, pointless and irrational. There are LAWS that apply, and they are there for a reason. The same laws that put George Ryan in jail are the ones which state - c l e a r l y - that there is no legal connection between his crimes and an accident months after the fact when a lowly clerk was bribed to sell someone a CDL.
