1. Thanks indeed...
Many of these "successes" were the result of the policies of his finanical czar Alan Greenspan who of course recently admitted maybe he made a little boo-boo. The current mess was created by Bill Clinton's pen. All George W Bush did was merely allow everyone to rip everyone else off. But it was Bill Clinton's pen that made it all legal.

6. Baby wrong
Fed created conditions for the MESS.

5 points--

1. 6.5% Interest Rate in 2000
1% in 2001
a bank would be nuts not to get as much as possible at 1% to loan out at 6% +.

2.Federal increased M-3 Total Money Supply.
Banks had plenty to get.

M-3
1960=500b
1970=750b
1980=2000
+100%
1990=4000
+50%
2000=6000
+75%
2008=10,000

3. Developers went wild building Homes Too Large-Too Expensive for Middle Class Incomes

Example--Calif builder being sued.Built $700,000 homes. Nearby build same blueprint for $400,000. big profit.

In 2000 it took 3.2 years of average annual income to buy an average priced new home.

In 2006 it took 5.4 years.

A 68% Increase.

There was no 68% increase in Labor and Materials.

4.Realtors had many to sell so went overboard misdirecting buyers.

FEDERAL RESERVE GAVE THE PLATFORM FROM WHICH TO JUMP OVERBOARD==GREED GREED

5.MORTGAGE SECURITIZATIONS WERE A MESS. MANY DID NOT HAVE CLOSE THE VALUE PRESENTED TO BUYER.

GREED GONE HOG WILD.

I can't believe that you're giving Bush a pass on this.

2. You're not going to get a lot of fan mail
by praising Clintons around here. But I think he was and is fabulous. Thanks for the post. I agree that he had a lot to do with the economic upturn and relative world stability of the time. I am glad to see Obama using some of those Clintonites for his admin.

3. Bill Clinton did a lot for our county. Of course he made mistakes
but I just wonder why his mistakes always seems to be worse than everyone elses (Democrats and Republicans alike). I'm a big Obama supporter and have been for a very long time. I completely disagreed with the way Hillary ran her campaign. My sister, who is the biggest Obama supporter ever (she lives in Chicago, so there you go), observed that the Clinton's have had to be in "fight" mode for so long they pretty much didn't know how else to do it. I guess I'm just sick of us eating our own.....I'm ready for a little, "can't we all just f'in get along time." Gee whiz...........

18. He set the stage for Bush and his takeover of the DOJ
He continued the failed policies of the Drug Wars, promoted rules benefiting outsourced labor, and manipulated the Consumer Price Index to hide bad inflation numbers, and gave GMO foods without labeling the green light into our food supply. He installed Corporate friendly schills into the EPA, USDA and APHIS.

There was lots of free money floating about when Clinton was in office.

Secondly, he lied to all of us with a straight face, and very aggressively, although I think the crime was minimal, it's the thought that this guy can lie so easily gives me the creeps. Put in retrospect, and after researching the Clinton's while vetting Hilary, I can safely say that I think the Clintons are just another brand of corruption, and are not so far removed from the criminal in the current republican administration.

His story in Arkansas is not the sweet smelling rise to the top as everybody wants to portray it.

One conviction vs 137 charged isn't a good comparison. Just to make this more sensible, does anyone know how many people were *convicted* of anything while working for Reagan?

(Unfortunately, we can't really count those who were pardoned before they had the chance to be convicted, like Caspar Weinberger.)

24. Most thanks to John Kerry uncovering IranContra and BCCI - Clinton sided WITH Reagan/Bush on
those matters and protected their secrecy and privilege throughout the 90s, which enabled both Reagan and Bush1's legacies to be rehabbed in the public arena.

Did you manage to FORGET about that, Clarence?

Why cite Reagan and Bush's IranContra operations and praise Clinton who SIDED WITH THEM ON IranContra and BCCI operations?

there was a fucking level of competency when he was in office. You may or may not have liked some of the shit he did, but damn- he knew what the hell he was doing. You didn't go to bed worried that in the morning you were going to lose you fucking house, or your job, or that we might be going to war with Iran.

12. Beware
A lot of Clinton's economic success came at a price: the dot-com bubble. A bubble is not a healthy thing for an economy since it pops, which leads to a recession. The Glass-Steagall Act was also removed under the Clinton administration, which allowed for all of these risky loans that helped fuel the housing crisis. Then of course the Federal Reserve continued to screw things up as usual with Greenspan.

Was Bill Clinton better than Bush? Absolutely. Was he the greatest President ever? Not even close.

I'm certainly not saying he was bad. I would definitely put him in the "good" category. However to rate him as #1 based on poll numbers is silly, especially since the dot-com bubble popped after he left office. Also, I have some issues on Clinton's foreign policy.

15. well...yeah...but ...MONICA
I am not sure why people keep forgetting that Bill disgraced the Office and embarrassed the country with his lack of self-control. Also, read this article, it is an interview with Mark Engler, the author of "How to Rule the World". Read the book also.

http://lacatholicworker.org/category/agitator-archives
see December issue: The Bailout: Socialism For Wall Street. it is a PDF file, so you have to click on the link.

A quote from Engler: "as i discuss in my book, the deregulation policies or market fundamentalism--all the things that led to this crisis--are not just a republican program. Unfortunately, these very same policies were pursued by Clinton in the 90's. Clinton did more to enhance corporate globalization than anyone else, and most of Barack Obama's advisers come from that same camp. This is very, very frightening to me." Quote from interview with Mark Engler in the December issue of Catholic Agitator.

Many of Clinton's polices continued deregulation of corporations which is partly to blame for current problems. The article is interesting, especially the part about Treasury Secretary Paulson, who came from Goldman Sachs, making $400 million when he had to sell his stock to become T-Sec. Anyway, he is not a saint. The Monica thing was an embarrassment and soiled (pun intended) his reputation and our countries.

17. 1%-- 4000B-- 68%--Bundle
Four keys.

Why did not this happen under Clinton ????

Search for True Causes

Fed 1% Interest Rate-Clinton had 6.5%

Fed increased M-3 Total Money Supply by 4000B in six or twice as much as preceding ten years.

Developers built homes where average home increased in price by 68% in six years.

Regular Banks financed mortgages to get as much of 1% money as possible.

They bundled and sold to Gambling Houses on Wall Street.

It was a "quick" small profit.
Cash flow fell to deposits.
No monthly payments coming in.

Developers went wild building homes too large and too expensive for the middle class income.

Price of average size home increased by 68% from 2001 to 2007.

Labor-materials did not increase by 68%.

Realtors had plenty to sell. So sell sell sell even if required lying by buyer and seller

How else could a man with $14,000 annual income get a $700,000 home in California.

This is not complex.

Many writers write hundred of pages on it.

Here is one page in spades. No Blarney Baloney
