So, what comics/graphic novels have you guys/gals been reading lately? |
|
I'm currently in Wolverine The Essentials Vol. 1
I like Wolverine a lot, and reading up on some of his past adventures and what not has been rather interesting. My only gripe is that the Essential is in Black/White no color, but it is still rather good reading.
I got volumes 1, 2, and 3.

Star Wars: Vader's Quest--story immediately follows SW Episode IV A New Hope. Imagine the moment of pure tragedy when Darth Vader discovered that his son blew up the Death Star.
Appleseed IV by Masamune Shirow. Black and White, and manga, but still one of the most fascinating graphic novels ever written. Set in the utopian arcology of Olympus after a devastating global war, the story follows humanity's attempts to build a new world with the help of cyborgs, robots, and artificially intelligent computers.
Give Me Liberty by Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). Brilliant satirical take on a scarily familiar future.

3. Give Me Liberty is great. |
|
Haven't read it in years, but that series is dying for the movie treatment for sure.
There's a few titles out that I am only reading as graphic novel/TPB form:
Scalped (highly, highly recommended, one of the best titles out there hands down)
Usagi Yojimbo
Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8 (I know, I know. My wife sucked me into the series and I want to see what happens next)
Haunted Tank reprints
I guess there must be others but I can't think of them right now. Planetary, but I don't know if Vol 4 is ever going to come out...

I'd avoided this tangential stuff, but it's been so highly reviewed I had to check it out.
Well worth it!

I've read it in CBR format because it's the only way I could get it. Will I go to hell for piracy? My corpse left to rot in a gibbet outside Tod McFarland's house? Only time will tell. At this point I'm almost ready to pay the horribly inflated eBay prices because my wife wont read it on the computer.
I don't want to ruin anything with spoilers but it changed forever the way I look at a super powered villains. If you want to, message me when you're done and we can open a thread with spoilers galore. I'd love to hear what you think.
What I'm reading now. I've just about caught up to current on the Walking Dead and Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse.

I purchased those puppies when they first came out! I break them out and read them every now and then...I think I cried the first time I read them...People don't realize how much comic books changed after "Watchmen" and "MarvelMan".

10. Kirkman's stuff. "Walking Dead" and "Invincible" |
|
I've fallen behind on BK Vaughn's Ex Machina.
I'm reading all of the Avengers stuff at Marvel. Along with Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Iron Fist, Cable, X-Force, Agents of Atlas Secret Warriors, and the Spider books.
Over at DC I'm only reading Justice League, Superman/Batman, and the Bat books. And trying to follow Blackest Night.
Oh and DMZ, I never miss DMZ.
