Shortly before location scouting was to have begun on the third X-Men movie, director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake) has quit abruptly, citing family reasons, 20th Century Fox told Variety.
Well, that doesn't bode well for the series...

1. Oooh. Kire isn't going to be happy |
|
He seemed pretty jazzed about this guy.
I remain VERY concerned about the X-Men movie franchise.

2. I came to this forum as soon as I found out. |

thanks for mentioning my name
My take is, just another challenge. I have faith that X3 will be a great film, regardless of the difficulties.

X-Men is my favorite comic book franchise, and I've been more than pleased with the first two movies.

4. So lets speculate on replacements |
|
Joss Whedon (despite scheduling stickiness) sounds like the fanboy's choice, and he might just be the right pick. There's no doubt that he "gets" this genre, but he's got Wonder Woman.
I've also heard Kurt Wimmer's name. I never saw Equilibrium, so I know bubkes about him.
I LOVE the story they are trying to tell in X3, but I'm quite worried that the rockiness in development will hurt the final product.
Cross your fingers that they make a good choice on a new director.

5. UPDATE: Ratner Replaces X-Men's Vaughn |
|
Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment hired Brett Ratner on June 3 to replace Matthew Vaughn as the director of the third X-Men movie, Variety reported. The hiring keeps the film on track for an August start date and a Memorial Day weekend 2006 opening date, the trade paper reported.

6. I'm not a big fan of his work |

Here's hoping the story is strong enough to push through Ratner's ridiculously heavy hand.
Not great news.
