Joint Checking Accounts -- augh! |
|
Ok, I am not going through a divorce or separated but it is heading that way. I think we are just waiting until we are back in the US so it is easier.
Anyway... I just need some advice. We have a joint checking account and then I have my old checking account. He has a separate savings account. The joint account -- I am not allowed to see. I am not allowed to see the money deposited, the money spent, the bank statements, nothing. I have no bank card for this account but my name is on it. He has the only key to our mail box and he intercepts everything coming from the bank. I cannot look at the account online. If I call the bank and ask for a password to check it online, they send out the paperwork in the mail and he intercepts it.
What the hell do I do? I don't need the money in that account but if my name is on it, I should think that I can see the damn thing!

1. Not sure if any of this helps |

If it were me, I think I'd talk to the bank (in person) and tell them what is happening. Your name is on that account and you should be able to walk into the bank a get a printout of your statement and a bank card. You should also be able to request future statements be sent via e-mail or fax.
If you do separate, I think there is a way to freeze the bank accounts, so he can't spend all the money.
Finally, don't deposit any of your money into that account.
Good luck.

2. I wish it were that easy |

We are living overseas and the bank is in the US. That is what really makes things complicated. But thanks for the advice!

Do not fuck with money and credit. He could ruin you with this. He is divorcable for this alone.
