Who is driving old cars/trucks on DU
.
.
.

My one and only vehicle for the last 20 years is a 1979 Ford F150 4x4 extended cab

This isn't the one I'm driving, mine looks a wee bit more "used"

just too lazy to find wherever I posted my own vehicle at the moment

But mine USED to look that pretty when I bought it in 1990

(sigh)

2. I am...
Though not as old as yours, my '85 s-10 4x4 is no spring chicken.

Recently it had a heart transplant, the old 2.8 v6 gone, and a 383 stroker with vortec heads and complete roller valvetrain bolted in its place. I'm going to make it a baja clone of sorts, which will look something like this but in white with black trim:

My other ermm...truck...is a short box s-10 4x4 - 1986 - being converted into all wheel drive. Borg warner 4472 t-case and safari/astro/bravada/syclone/typhoon front driveshaft...and a 427 cube small block stroker, but it has a long ways to go.

I don't have any older stuff than that anymore...all the classic stuff is too expensive these days. The s-trucks make dandy and inexpensive vehicles, whether for projects, utility, or just daily driving.

They're everywhere.

3. speaking of "transplants"
.
.
.

10 years ago I rebuilt and installed a 400 from my Lincoln Mark V )body rotted out)

the one in the background is the Mark V

also, I rebuilt and installed a rear track-lock differential from a 79 bronco.

Tranny completely overhauled in 2003

Not much driving in the last ten years, so the whole drive train has less than 15,000k on it.

I'm a mechanic, but I wish I could morph into a body-man for just one summer :silly:

4. Well...
1987 Volkswagen Vanagon with 360k, third trans, second engine (I build'em myself), 1993 Volvo wagon with 330k, 1985 Volvo with 550k...
The 1993 is on the original engine, trans and rotors. The 1985 has a newer head and a rebuilt bottom end. The fuel injection finally gave out so I threw a 2 bbl Weber on it for fun.
I wont buy it unless I can work on it and sleep in it.
When the engine goes in the 1993, I have plans to put in a 289 or something bigger.
