2. To Bad They Don't Use The AWD System...
from their WRC Focus's. Then I might be interested. (not that I could ever afford one anyway)

3. AWD would be too heavy (the car is already 3700+ lbs)
and it would be too expensive to add to that car...besides, the stang fans would freak out at such a change...

AWD is available on the 500, however

9. weight is an absolute killer in performance applications
the stang is way overweight as it is, and with a supercharger and iron block over the front wheels, the weight distribution is already skewed...

and i don't see any situation where AWD+solid read axle would work properly

10. I Know,...
I was just joshing. Anyway, what the hell are American car makers still doing using iron blocks in these expensive performance builds? No doubt AWD would not work on the car as designed. Had they desigend the car to atleast include AWD as an option it would be a different story.

12. even though i disagree with using an iron block
i understand the reasoning behind it (high boost from the supercharger--8.5 psi, and some owners will probably push it to 20)...the strength of the iron block makes it damn near indestructable

4. You want AWD? Get an Audi...they invented AWD...
Well, I'm not really sure who invented it, but they perfected it on their sports cars. Quattro is the way to go!!

And if you want one that will annihilate a Mustang, get the RS9 when it comes out. It is basically going to be the LeMans pictured below with possibly a V10 Bi-turbo engine producing around 600HP.

5. I Like Audi A Lot.
Why don't they have any factory cars in the WRC anymore? The RS9 looks very nice. I would guess that it will be about 4x as expensive though.

7. The RS9 will be released sometime around 2007
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 01:07 PM by JohnnyCougar
give or take a year.

It's a mid-engined race car with a 7 speed DSG transmission. I'm guessing it will be only 2-3 times more expensive. The target price range is from $100,000 to $130,000...it will probably come with a few engine options that cover that range!

The top engine option is rumored to be the Lamborghini Gallarado V10 with twin turbos added. :droool: And of course, it will come with AWD and launch control, so you won't sit around spinning your tires at the launch.

As for the WRC, I am not sure, but someone once told me it was because they aren't allowed to compete becuase the Quattro AWD system gave them an unfair advantage in some way. I'll have to verify that, though.

Edit:

Here are some links about Audi's rally racing history. Apparently, they pulled the plug when one of their drivers died. They were pretty much the knig when they quit. I think they should be like Aragorn and reclaim their crown!

13. It's only $38 grand?
Wow...ok, that comparison is not fair then!

I am so biased towards Audi, though...you will only get shameless promotion from me!

In retribution, I'll post this:

0-60 in 3.6 seconds by Ford...

14. They haven't decided that yet...
I think they'll wait to see how the A3 sells. I could see the S3 selling over here for just shy of $40,000 before options. It would probably have to be in the range of 300-350 HP if they brought it over...which would be astounding for a hatchback.

But now I am hijacking this thread with Audi stuff again! I have to remember not to do that!

for the GT Stang is unbelievable. Even Ford SVT director Hau Thai-Tang is on the list like everybody else. My local dealer has a white GT on the lot for 5K over invoice and they will get it too.
