I think we should all leave this site
and let the arguments of these tools fall on their own weight. Without us to challenge them, they won't have a forum to spew their BS. I think we'd all be better off. Who's with me?

1. I understand your frustration.
Your premise is a touch faulty though. "Without us to challenge them, they won't have a forum to spew their BS." That is wrong. Without us to challenge them, they are able to spew lies, filth, misinformation, and hate unchallenged! While we may be better off (physically, emotionally, and personally), to allow lies to be spread as truth is irresponsible.

I think the best thing we can do is alert. We need to do it when lies and bigotry are displayed. The moderators can't be everywhere at once. We know there are some posters here who are anti-Semitic, our best "friend" is the alert button.

If we leave, then who will fight for truth? When things like this occur, I remind myself, I don't post for "them," I post for those who are reading or lurking, but don't post. Why should we allow the haters to silence us?! I refuse to give them that "victory!"

While I don't begrudge your feelings, we must remain strong!

2. Totally agreel, Behind the Aegis.
When we respond, it's to the lurkers who don't yet have a firm and fixed position. More importantly, it's to correct misinformation, but the load of (factual) crap being spewed feels overwhelming at times.

3. Please alert on anti-semitism whenever you see it!
Moderators rely heavily on alerts to know what needs attention and how urgent it is. What doesn't get alerted on often doesn't get noticed.

6. Agree. It is important to, at least, keep the facts right
like "Egypt attacked in 1973 to take back the land taken in 1956..."

Like reminding them that the U.S. did not always stand behind Israel, certainly not during the 1956 Suez Crisis.

Hang on. Later this month we will be going on vacation and we need to watch over the way facts are being manipulated. Glad about the new GD rules; I have had too many good threads being locked or moved to the I/P and then locked.

Funny, once I correct a fact, no one ever comes back.

4. I really share your frustrations
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 06:28 AM by MrWiggles
I have a hard time having to exchange conversation with some here who are pretty ignorant about the situation and don't want to learn from the debates. I don't expect people to change their minds but I expect them to at the very least recognize the myths from facts and stick with the facts.

Instead, these people I refer to are after reasons to criticize the side they hate. Then I think, "why waste my time in a argument with such people? It doesn't go anywhere."

It requires a lot of patience and patience is something I am begining to lack.

But like the replies to your OP say: we can't let misinformation rule and we must alert the mods when we get a chance.

5. I couldn't agree with you more ...
I came back on today to see what was going on and it was a big mistake. Another lovely DU poster questioning the "loyalty" of American Jews.

I'm pretty damn sick of it.

7. We on the Left have our own share of bigots
I'm not willing to concede this forum to them. If we are patient then the anti-Semites will make fools of themselves.

Although it can be difficult when you see the same old IHR/Stormfront talking points regurgitated ad nauseam.

9. it's been shocking at times, but I don't get the sense that a
majority of DUers buy into this "Protocols of the Elders Zion" analysis of all the heartbreak in the Mideast.

Perhaps the disappointment is that the percentage that do roughly corresponds to America at large? Or at least, isn't as infinitesimal as I thought?
