Gold Slippers on Rosh Hashana |
|
Cross posting from the DU Lounge because I haven't got any answers there after abotu 4 hours.
Yesterday was Rosh Hashana and it seemed like every other woman...more than that. Most of the women heading to temple, or out and about afterwards in the Jewish neighborhood, were wearing gold slippers. No heal, gold slippers. I asked a Rabbi online who was in Europe but she had never heard of the custom at all.
Can anyone tell me why women wear the gold slippers on Rosh Hashana? Like what the custom is, what the meaning is, etc? It's eating away at my brain now, and I wish I had asked someone yesterday.

1. I don't know about the gold part |
|
but a lot of jews don't wear leather shoes on the High Holy days. They wear canvas sneakers or slippers.

2. Not wearing leather, women choose their best slippers to |
|
wear on Yom Kippur. We do not weather leather shoes on Tish B'Av either.
