I had the radioactive iodine treatment Wednesday, to kill my thyroid.
There have been no side effects yet. All I can say is that I hope this was the right decision.

Yes, you made the right decision.
You will need to correct your thyroid levels with medication, but you will escape heart damage, disfigurement, and a host of other problems that come with an overactive thyroid.

Do you mean thyroid eye disease?
I am lucky not to have that.
My heart has been affected, though. I have atrial fibrillation, and may need a pacemaker. I did the RAI because I was worried about heart damage. Everyone is affected differently, but my heart seems to have borne the brunt of this illness.
