Loose weight and do exercise... how many diabetics have heard this/ |
|
Raises hand
Well folks here are some of the benefits of actually heeding the advise.
I am OFF one of my meds... and if i keep doing doing this... I may even reduce the dosage of the second... who knows perhaps even not need meds for a while.
Is it easy? no... nobody said it would be easy.
But i am down over thirty pounds, can do a nice two + mile walk -run on the gazelle, with 12.05 miles average... and my sugars are under far better control
Oh and I feel much better... and I can walk faster...
I also watch my diet, and feel energetic since my sugars are not out of whack
Give this a try... it is worth it... and yes, this has taken over two years to do... still I LOOK FORWARDS to my exercise... and need it

For many people, meds are the 'easy' solution, but in the long run, taking better care of yourself and changing your eating and exercizing will make you feel so much better! Kudos to you!

i am doing much better, in large part, i think, to getting better sleep. i am lucky that i work at my own schedule. since i don't have kids to shake out at 7 am any more, i can sleep as much as my body needs to sleep. and i take ambien, so no more tossing turning insomnia, either. i started off sleeping till noon some days, but at least till 10-10:30. it has slowly crept back, earlier and earlier. now it is more like 8:30-9 most days, sometimes 7 even. lyrica helps, too. not everybody can do that. but it does pay to take good care of your sleep.
virtuous cycles. all good. congrats to you.

3. That's great! I'm not diabetic, but this advice applies to all sorts of conditions. |
|
I got out of the habit of exercising when I became a busy mother and developed a foot problem that limited my exercise options. Eight years with very little exercise and I have arthritis and chronic debilitating lower back pain. Or I should say *had* lower back pain. Although I have a significantly degenerated disc, my doctor told me exercise would reduce or stop the pain. A couple months ago my foot problem started improving and I decided it was time to heed the doctor's advice. I bought a treadmill and made it a priority to exercise (almost) every day. I've lost about ten pounds now, have really firmed up and for the past few weeks it's obvious the exercise is paying off---I have almost no arthritis or back pain at all! This is the best I have felt for years! I'm also sleeping better and have more energy. My goal is to be able to go horseback riding and do some light backpacking again within a year. This would have seemed impossible up until recently. I feel like I have my life back again. Exercise is truly a miracle cure.
What sort of exercise do you do? It took me awhile to find something I liked enough to stick with. I love my treadmill.
