Celiac's: anyone else using the same treatment as me? |
|
So, after being diagnosed with celiac's a couple years ago, i recently stumbled across a combination of meds that alone don't do much but together alow me to occasionally eat gluten without issues (no more than a couple days in a row).
It is a mix of the lowest dose of xanax and hyomax together before a meal. might be my own chemistry, but it allows me to not starve when i am in a situation where the only things available have gluten in it.
After a few days i still start to get cramping and have to avoid it for a while (but no diarrhea), but it sure makes a huge difference when put in a situation where you can't control what food is available, like the last few days for me doing flood relief work for my church. it was either eat only junk food and candy for every meal or eat gluten filled food.
I am mostly just curious because my doctors have no clue why this works.

1. While the combination of drugs control the symptoms |
|
when you're eating gluten the damage to your intestine is still occurring.
However, when you're in a situation like the ones you've described and it's either eat gluten or eat candy bars, you're pretty much stuck. Just realize that if you're eating gluten, you're not getting the full nutrition from it, anyway, and let your conscience be your guide on what to eat.
Sometimes controlling the symptoms is the best we can do.

3. You've already heard that you're damaging your small intestine |
|
I have it so ingrained in me that gluten is poisonous to me that I don't even crave bread or anything that would have gluten. I truly see it like rat poison. We even call the bread my family eats "poison bread". I would have to have years of proof of a true cure, not just covering the symptoms before I would ever consider eating gluten and I doubt I could override my revulsion.
