It is great to see you here again. Are you receiving any therapy? I'm not in medicine and don't know whether there is any therapy available to someone who has been through brain surgery like you.

4. It is good to see you again! |

I remember reading your posts before your surgery.
I hope some speech therapy can help your aphasia.

Give it some time and the proper therapy and I'm sure that you'll do great.
I wish that I didn't know this from personal experience, but the brain can perform miracles after an injury or an operation.
The advances that they've made in therapy and training the brain to rewire itself to assist damaged areas is amazing.

The seizures being gone is great.
No reason to not hope that the rest turns out great, too!

7. Happy to follow your progress, w8liftinglady! |

I'm not sure which kind of aphasia you currently have... I understand ways that friends and family can help you include:
Family members are encouraged to:
* Simplify language by using short, uncomplicated sentences. * Repeat the content words or write down key words to clarify meaning as needed. * Maintain a natural conversational manner appropriate for an adult. * Minimize distractions, such as a loud radio or TV, whenever possible. * Include the person with aphasia in conversations. * Ask for and value the opinion of the person with aphasia, especially regarding family matters. * Encourage any type of communication, whether it is speech, gesture, pointing, or drawing. * Avoid correcting the person’s speech. * Allow the person plenty of time to talk. * Help the person become involved outside the home. Seek out support groups such as stroke clubs.
One thing about DU, you have all the time you need to "talk"!

I have trouble getting out more complex statements-especially if I'm tired....lose the word I wanted and am unable to substitute. This will all get better with time...I know it will...:)

I've been wondering how it was going for you. My SO has been seizure free pretty much now for 25 years. Every day it'll get better and better....

12. Let's hope the bad hair days outlast the aphasia |
|
I've always been annoyed by the way they only shave one side. Just do it all and be done with it, IMO.
If your seizures are gone or even diminished to the point they can be controlled by drugs, then it was worth it.
