I hurt my back. The tramadol the doctor prescribed seemed to be working.
Yesterday, I thought I had a mosquito bite on the back of my neck. By this evening, I had huge welts all over the back of my neck. Now they are advancing around the front.
I was lucky that my doctor was on call. He told me to stop the drug, and take some benadryl.
I guess I am lucky that I got off with just a case of hives. It is a shame that something that seemed to be working for the pain gave me an allergic reaction.

1. I hope he swapped your pain meds, too. |

Tramadol has been a miracle drug for me with chronic pain, no buzz but decent pain relief, at least to the point I can function.
It's too bad you're allergic to it but good it stopped with hives. Most drug allergies do stop with hives. Anaphylaxis is very rare.

2. I have no other pain meds right now. |
|
My doctor is in Florida for a week. The on-call doc is worse than useless.

4. The heck of it is that the hives never went away |

completely. Yesterday, they were all over my body. They are still a problem today, but a little less so.
I may see the doctor later this week, if things don't get better.
I understand that hives go away when they get good and ready. But since I quit taking the tramadol some time ago, I am wondering if maybe the hives were caused by something else after all. I don't know.

3. Been on Tramadol for 3 years |

on and off - mostly on for fractures. Have osteoporosis, too. I'm sooo lucky. I am - hell it could be something worse right?
I haven't had any reaction to the drug except that it doesn't work as well as it did for the first year or so. Now - Until I get the fracture 'cemented' a procedure the within 2 hours pain is gone and fracture is set - lol the 'crazy glue' cure. It's a miracle - honest.
Now they've given me Oxycondone.. I DO NOT WANT this crap! Have to take it for pain relief for now but, I'm sitting dr. down and we're going to cut this poison in half. I take 16 pills a day for various b.s. We're going holistic or some other way. I've had it with the side effects and the whole nine yards. :rantoff:
