Special ways to remember our loved ones at memorials and funerals? |
|
My mom's service (and 2 other family member services) will be conducted on June 27th. Dad is going to play a Joch Groban song for her, and he has a lady coming in to sing more songs inclusing one from West Side Story. We'll also have a piper to play Amazing Grace.
I heard from an old family friend long since moved away that he can't make it to the service so I asked him to light a candle at the time of the service and have a cup of tea .. or maybe a goblet of Honey Meade.
What have you done at your memorials to help make them special?

a friend of my brother's sang Ave Maria and Amazing Grace. I would have liked to deliver the eulogy -but didn't think I could do it without breaking down, so the minister did it. An honor guard played taps and did the flag ceremony and presented it to my Mom. (Dad was a WWII vet) Dad was cremated - so we went right into the church hall after the service for a luncheon.
I made a collage on one of those tri fold poster board things and had pictures from the stages of my Dad's life posted there. Also, 8x10 pictures of his Navy picture, wedding picture , and 50th wedding anniversary picture.
We displayed a Bible in a nice case given by my Dad's union (he was a steelworker) and displayed the certificate from Ellis Island that was issued when we put his name on the wall of immigrants. (born in Czechoslovakia and came here at age 5).
Everyone enjoyed seeing the pictures. I chose pictures that had family members and friends in them and the ones from the "old days" were enjoyed the most, I think.
Your mom's service sounds nice :-).
