My Mom's Birthday Is May 29th (tomorrow) |
|
It's the first birthday that she isn't here (in my existence that is) She died last October 10th.
My Dad is still living, he lives in Colorado.
Their 51st anniversary is May 30
I'm worried about him, can't be there for logistical reasons (I'm in Arkansas and have a family, job, etc.)
My sister lives in Colorado, but she doesn't know if she will go to see my Dad or not.
He told me that he plans to go into the mountains to a lake and walk around it and "remember" their time together. I guess this is good for him, it just made me sad to hear him talk about it.
Then today I've been sad, cranky, and crying. I realized that I was arguing with people about beliefs on the Religion/Theology forum because my mother died calling herself an atheist.
She was my Sunday school teacher when I was 5 or 6, and we always went to Church growing up.
So it was wierd when she told me several years ago that she was an atheist.
Anyway, I didn't know this group existed.
Thanks Rev Cheesehead
Peace

I just went through the first birthday/Mother's Day thing without my Mom. I spent the weekend with Dad instead.
As my many friends remind me, the "firsts" are the hardest.

3. Dad and I talk more than we ever did before. |
|
Usually he'd just listen while Mom & I talked, then would say, "I'm having trouble hearing," and let us carry on. But since coming home from the funeral, we've been on the phone 3-4 times a week. That's a LOT for Dad.
I hope you called him. And here - have another hug:

he went up in Rocky Mountain National Park (near where he lives) and went to a lake that he and my Mom would go to often. He said it was crowded but he was able to walk around the lake.
We talked about how sad these days are (although for him I think he's sad every day) and the anniversary tomorrow.
My 6 year old son calls him usually and then when he's done says "you want to talk to your son now?"
it's pretty funny, kind of like "you're dismissed" but in a cute and loveable way.
