I have been using Quicken since around 1992. I used Managing Your Money (MYM) before that and Lotus 1-2-3 before that! I use it to track investments more than for budgeting and banking stuff. It used to be more trouble than it was worth to track credit cards and bank accounts but with the data exchange options like QIF and QFX I have started to do more of that. I have not upgraded to 2006 Deluxe yet. I usually upgrade about every other cycle. It stinks that they are not going to support QIF file import in the next version.
I would like to get a conversion going on how others are using Quicken or other financial software to manage investments. I will write more when I have time.

1. I've used Quicken since the late 80's |

one of the first versions...for DOS (sheez). Anyway, we don't do much investment tracking with it - I follow that stuff through our brokerage site (TDAmeritrade) which makes things pretty easy. Mostly we use it for online banking, and it seems that Quicken almost forces you to upgrade to keep that ability.

2. I'm using it to start amassing data on spending, for the most part. |

Also tracking investments, but primarily I want to begin getting a very detailed picture of what I'm spending my money on month-by-month, year-by-year.
A Quicken newbie, so there's not much of a database yet. But I think over time the info will be useful both in making spending decisions at any given moment, as well as knowing what to realistically expect at retirement.
I try to apply the maxim "Live simply, so that others may simply live." We'll see if I'm actually walking the walk, or just deluding myself. :)
