Obama's speech today confirmed he is a liar and a typical politician.
How many times did he say on Friday he would have walked out or quit if he knew about the racist histrionics of Rev. Wright?

This morning, he admits not only did he know, but he was there.

Today I saw the audacity of insincere damage control, but then again, with two decades of attendance and video tape to boot, he didn't have much choice. It did accomplish the goal of re-placing the media's lips firmly on his backside.

1. He may have won the media's love
but, I feel sure he further alienated
a lot of the voters. He finally acknowledges
his white half in this speech, something he
has ignored until it was to his advantage to
high light it. He proved what a hypocrite he
is when it comes to this issue. He wants to
appear one way when his actions say a totally
different thing. 20+ years he listened to and
condoned white hate speech, does he hate his white
half that much? He does not like to be referred
to bi-racial but, prefers African-American. Seems
like he believes the Rev. Wright.

2. Doesn't he love speeches, though? Yes, words impt. - more impt. than action -
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 11:59 AM by libbygurl
- so he made another speech condemning the words of JW - I was right (wright? LOL) after all, in joking about him making a speech about this issue!

So what did he do about the racist comments of his pastor? How did he heal the racial divide?

To BO, speech-making is the same as action, it seems. Shut up and get to work!

3. I missed it
I guess I will watch it later. Not really looking forward to watching this wolf in sheep's clothing.
Sounds like a very self centered speech, again

8. Spot on, the speech was self centered. All about what he went through, his experiences..
I find it fascinating that people don't take him and Rev. Wright to task for creating the image that he's a poor boy from the south side of Chicago and lacked "priviledge". Obama attended Punahou School, a private college preparatory school, from the fifth grade until his graduation.

After high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University, not an inexpensive school, in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations. Obama received his Bachelor of Arts in 1983. In 1988 he attended Yale University, another high priced Ivy league school.

I would like to know how Barack Obama has been disadvantaged and poor. Now maybe he didn't have to pay for all of it, but, he's lead as "priviledged" life as Hillary, if not more so.

6. thank you I read the blog
no one seems overly enthused about it. I woke up at 9am pst so I believe that is when it started?

If he really brought up Geraldine Ferraro then he is really really playing the race card.

You have no soul barack obama.

If we vote for Obama the country moves forward. If we don't we're just a bunch of racists.

Hillary needs equal free time. Why should he get all this free time?

about Bama continually updating his stories as he gets caught on something. I am going to use it now, (verbatim, if you don't mind.)

that nobody believed his denials. He probably knows that video is out there of him sitting in the pews during an outrageous sermon. He's a typical politician. Nothing more. He can give a good speech, and that's it. He will not deliver anything.

19. Well, give his speechwriter some milk and cookies for an inspiring
speech. I would have been MUCH more impressed with it had Obama given it shortly before or after the SC Primary to attempt to heal the racial divisions he himself had stirred up with his circulating memo to the media pointing out every perceived racial slight the Clintons had ever inflicted upon him. NOW after the tapes have poisoned the well for him, he finally gets on his kumbaya bandwagon and tries to fool everyone in believing he's just the ticket to bridge our racial divides, and like it was said downthread, implied that if he wasn't elected we would still be mired in racism.
I also didn't appreciate the way he kinda threw his little old white, mentally and physically enfeebled granny under the bus by ascribing to her some racist sentiments that she may or may not have had. However, the fact that she is unable to defend herself doesn't speak well of his love and respect for her, IMHO. And who in the world could possibly buy into the notion that he never heard a racist utterance from Rev. Wright's mouth in private conversations. Hll, he's the one who brought up the fact that we all talk more freely in private than in public, so imagine if you will, the private musings of the Rev. Wright when the public persona is so obnoxiously grating.
Nah, I didn't buy the cow he was trying to sell. It was nice try though, but he owes whatever credit he's getting to a great speechwriter.

29. Hmm, you are right. You know what pisses me off the most about him?
He's so damn condescending about everyone and everything. He says Hillary is "likeable enough", he claims her voters would vote for him but his may not vote for her. It seems like he was born with a silver spoon shoved up his ass; much as GWB was born with a golden boot shoved down his mouth. He sure as hell didn't grow up with a single mom and poor and it was thanks to his white grandparents. He probably bears them alot of resentment also.
Someone on another thread pointed out that according to his book in 1995 the being afraid of a black man he accused his granny of during his *inspiring* speech ysterday was an aggressive panhandler. I'd be afraid of an aggressive panhandler regardless of race. He made it sound like she was an out and out racist and it was awful the way he tried to equate any private sins of hers with the lunatic and hateful ravings of his batshit crazy preacher. Plus, while he went out of his way to explain the offensive comments "in context" for his beloved reverend, I didn't notice him doing the same for his grandma.

22. He hangs himself here:
“For some, nagging questions remain,” Mr. Obama said. “Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely — just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.”

We'll see how many pick up on it...

Sure. Many of us have heard our pastor scream "God D@&m America!!!"

He "disagreed strongly" and yet... he stayed... and was quiet... and did nothing... and sent money... lots and lots of money...

Scroll down to the "Self-Inflicted Wounds" entry on the homepage. She juxtaposes the quote I cited and his earlier statements that are in direct contradiction.

By the way, her site is constantly updated with respect to HRC news. Very informative comments too.
