they offered me the bar manager job today
well, not exactly, but the current bar manager is leaving and wants to recommend me to the board.

15+ years sober and bad enough I tend bar 3 nights a week, now they want me to manage the damned place??

3. Oh boy, AZDem. That's a toughie.
Pray on it- and I mean constantly!

It's a tough decision, but with guidance you'll make the right move.

Maybe the manager's position would have you in less direct contact with
the booze?

Good luck!

4. no less contact I'm afraid
I dunno, it's sounding more like a meat grinder every day

I may be unemployed in a couple weeks I think

It's not the job as much as the co-workers and if I get the job the other woman there will be poison if she stays.

Hubby is saying "No way no how if the other gal doesn't go down the road at the same time" and I'm sure he's correct.

5. He has a good point there.

If she gets resentful and mean, the work environment
will be very unpleasant.

I hope it all works out for the best.

6. the work environment is already unpleasant, the only thing that's saved me
is a black belt alanon program and the current manager.

It's more and more feeling like I'm gonna move on. interesting how God works though, just last night the owner of the largest Real Estate company mentioned (for the third time) he would love to have me in his property management division.

maybe one of those 'coincidences'??

7. I think so!
Hey- that sounds better.

It's a better work environment and you won't be dealing
with hostility AND da booze.

Good luck, AZDem!

8. Funny, my husband is going through a similar job crisis....
where he has been offered something that looks good superficially, but which is actually a toxic work environment because of the attitudes of the people left after the merger. He's going to hang on through the holidays, as it's a crappy time of year to look for a lawyer job and the money is good, but he's made the decision to leave. It's bad for your health on many levels to work in a place like that.

Now, the bartending business, on the other hand, is heating up for the holidays. You could probably score some banquet or event work over the next two months until you find something you really like.

Good luck!

(p.s., I'm sober and very busy, new job going great, hence my lack of posting this fall)

Much love.
