and realizing that we can't change anyone but ourselves...
that is truly the key to living recovery i think.
I struggle with that, I worry about others I know that don't have recovery.
I want to give it to them, but I can't.
I love people with problems, but love won't stop alcoholism.
Just thought I'd put that out there today.
Thanks

thinking of letting go always sends me to Dr, Paul's story. Not the "acceptance is the key" part but the part where he talks about where you put you attention.
as in "if I think about the problem, the problem increases, if I think about the solution, the solution increases."
It reminds me to stay in the solution yanno?

3. focusing on the solution tonight |
|
'cause the problem
well it is cunning, baffling, powerful
and it waits for me
and it envelops others
and I hurt for them, but can only pray and do for me what I can do
God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change the courage to change the people I can, and the wisdom to know it's ME.

5. We are constantly dealing with that dilemma. |
|
'Carry the message, not the person' ( did I get that right?)
Remember, for every one of us in recovery, we have nine brothers/sisters still out there, drinking and using.
I never forget that.

but I realize today (again) that I can't change anyone but myself, and I can't stop someone else from drinking and I can't handle their drinking.

I'm watching my stepmom down 6 oz of gin in spite of being told not to drink today after her surgery...
sigh
anything beyond the tip of my nose is none of my business
you don't know how many times I've had to remind myself of that today

10. Letting Go was one of the most freeing concepts I learned in AA. |
|
I was so exhausted from trying to make the world see things from my point of view.
The fact that I was a drunk never deterred me from trying to fix others and the world. Man, that is such hard work.
I am no longer in charge of the universe - just my little corner of it and I have a lot more energy to do things that are actually useful sometimes.
The program is a psychiatric do it yourself kit and letting do is a big item in my toolbox.
much love to you. OB
