My Father, with 28 years, sober says to me, "I still want to get drunk some times". I guess it is just the way it is for me, and some of us. I go to AA also. This is hard for me. Dealing with life issues, and emmotions that I used to drink with.

3. the steps are how we learn to live with those emotions |
|
do you have a sponsor? have you worked the steps? the meetings are nice, but they don't give you the tools for living comfortably with out booze

4. I have had two sponsors. |
|
I don't blame them, but they "fired" me as a sponsee. I need help. and once again every one I ask leaves me. I try to work the 12 steps every day.

5. Find someone who has what you want. |
|
Long time sobriety and experience working well with sponsees. Someone who's sponsored someone you know, perhaps? :hi:

7. Have you tried different |
|
meeting rooms (if you're in a location that supports multiple groups)?
It took me 3 rooms to find the one that felt right, and I found a great sponsor. The first sponsor didn't work out; it wasn't his fault, we just were not a good fit.
Good luck to you; rooting for you.

I've tried a couple sponsors. I'm lucky that there are a lot of AA meetings in my area. I probably should go to more meetings.

9. Emotions, I think, are hard for a lot of folks to deal with. |
|
It's a lot easier for me if I'm able to surrender, and to live in the moment and realize that emotions come and go and that I don't need to let them dictate what I do. It's not easy, though, because...well...that's how I've lived my whole life. :pals: Hang in there

10. Try out some more meetings...I didn't get it until I found |
|
a meeting until I was surrounded by long term sobriety. We have a reading at my home group that says that no matter what your problem, someone else has had it to. You just need to find them and speak up at meetings so others know how you are feeling. Also, remember that physical cravings last for about 20 minutes. You have to wait it out and use your tools.
I think many of us have flashes where we still want to drink. I use those times as great big flashing neon lights that I have to work my program better. Call my sponsor, go to a meeting, help a newcomer, read the book, exercise, meditate, take a breather, walk outside, etc. Early in sobriety, I would head to a book store because there wasn't alcohol there and I could spend time decompressing without the phone or internet.

I have been around for a while. I hear your suggestions, and appreciate your input. What I find is that I know what to do, and don't do it. I get anxious, depressed, and just sit in my self pity. Thanks again for your reply.

12. I ask myself, do I really want to go back to the life of hell and misery that I lived in. All it |
|
takes is one drink of booze for me. To me, nothing is worth that.

now. Good luck and God bless.

14. That is why we live on a 24 hour basis, |
|
have sponsors that have been sober for a while and rely on our groups.
I have stayed sober one day at a time for 30 years. That is how it works.
