Dare I say the words that have been taboo around here? |
|
OK... here it goes.
Last September, I had gastric bypass surgery. It has been, besides quitting smoking, the smartest health decision I have ever made in my life.
I am 85 lbs. lighter than I was then, and I am exercising regularly (5 to 7 days per week). I feel better, and look better, than I have in years.
No, I don't think this procedure is for everyone, and I understand why so many are adverse about it (well, to a certain extent, I understand).
Over the past few months I find that I can eat more... probably closer to how healthy people eat than I ever have. Now, the rest is up to me. I have to make smart choices, lean protein, and veggies, and I need to limit carbs to healthy whole grains. And of course I need to keep exercising.

1. I don't think those words are taboo |
|
and we have at least one other group member who has also had the surgery.
Some people are against losing weight at all and others, especially those who have never had a weight problem, think it's *simply* a matter of eating less. I've never understood that last attitude either -- I've never smoked but I certainly don't think it's a simple matter to quit!
Anyway, I don't think any of us are going to judge each other's methods. And anyone who has followed your progress on the Exercise & Fitness Group, MissMillie, knows that you are serious about getting healthy!
Welcome to the group! :hi:

2. Good for you for taking control of your situation and doing something |
|
about it! I think you'll find lots of different ways here on this board, that people are choosing to deal with their weight problem, and lots of different ideas about what might be the 'best' way to do so. You just have to do what is best for you...
On the 'Intro' thread, auntAgonist 'outed' herself as having had the bypass surgery as well. Maybe you want to start a thread on this forum for fellow bypassers? I know there are a lot of after-effects that I've heard must be dealt with, as a result of the surgery, and I'm sure your experience would be helpful to others...
I've been sort of adapting Atkins to suit me, and I know there are some who have very strong pro-and-con feelings about that program. So you are not alone!
