Is there anyone here with Grave's Disease who has
managed to lose a lot of weight?

I put on sixty pounds. I have lost ten of those pounds in seven weeks. That is all!

I am switching up what I am doing, starting this week. I will be going to the fitness center to exercise six hours a week. I am starting a Seattle Sutton eating plan, 1200 calories daily.

Let me know if any of you thyroid sufferers have had success with anything. I had my thyroid destroyed with radioactive iodine in 2006, and started gaining weight shortly after that.

1. I had the treatment in the 80's and have taken medication since then
The weight is really really hard to take off. My only success has been with scrupulous portion and calorie control and keeping the carbs on the lower side. It's a struggle and even with a 1400 to 1600 calories a day eating plan it comes off very very slowly. Exercise helps but I've had to be really crazy obsessive in my monitoring of what goes in my mouth. It's really really difficult to stay motivated.

4. My sister had Graves and I have hypothyroidism.
We both gained weight because of the disorders and we both had to take it off the hard way. It was a disappointment for me when I first started taking medication that the fat that layered on while I was dieting didn't start melting away once I was on the meds. It comes off no easier than those pounds you enjoy putting on with delicious food and drink. Not fair, but once the body has a store of fat it really seems to hate giving it up. Good luck to you! :hi:

5. Thank you.
I have lost about thirty pounds now. Some days it looks like 28, some days 30.

I am on a 1200 calorie diet, and I exercise three times a week at a gym.

Maybe I would be a bit lighter by now, but I pulled a muscle in my back and had to stop working out for about a month.

I am not giving up on this.
