Woman sues judge (who banned use of the word 'rape' at the trial for male who raped her) |

Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 03:31 AM by BlueIris
All the usual warnings apply: it's a vile thread filled with some scary pro-rape comments and comments defending what the judge did. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1763598&mesg_id=1763598

Every time I click on a rape thread, I add at least 3 more people to my ignore list.

I think I got deleted in one of the subthreads. It was surreal. The women is suing about the legality of using the word rape, and it immediately turned into she was drunk it can't be rape by idiots. The fact that the women was intoxicated wasn't even the point, the point was the judge banning certain words that described the crime. God that was strange, even for rape apologists on DU. What do they think rape should be called? And how the hell can anyone on a progressive site defend the judges actions?
And the convoluted logic used to blame the women for her own assault. Very weird. In fact it creeped me out more than usual, on the order of Methinks they protest too goddam much.

7. "Methinks they protest too goddam much." Yep. That's my thinking about the rape apologists here. |

Whenever I see someone defending rape or a rapist, I wonder who exactly it is that they're defending. Themselves, for having coerced someone into a non-consensual sex act? Someone else, or multiple someones, for having raped them? A "friend" whom they know raped someone? A family member who did?
And though I've seen several rape apologists here who claim to be female, the majority of the ones whose comments I've noticed here are male. When male posters defend rape and rapists, especially in the bizarre, non-sensical ways they did in the thread in question, it appears to me that they're defending their own behaviors, or what they obviously feel they're entitled to think are acceptable behaviors. Some of the comments in the "woman sues judge" thread creeped me out, because I couldn't help but think after reading them, "Rapist waiting to happen...if he isn't one already."

...w/everything you've said about wondering why they protest--what's behind it. It's definitely something they did, someone they know, etc.
On the women rape apologists--there's at least one that I suspect is a male using a female name on our board. That or a woman in need of a great deal of help.
Another woman I've seen defending rapists consistently is in my opinion completely sick. She seems to go out of her way to flame anyone speaking out against rape, sexual assault, sexism, racism and homophobia.

11. There are a few people I'm convinced are defending their own behavior. |

10. I'm just floored by some of the reasons they think women make rape accusations |
|
You know, I've had some ill-advised flings and one-night stands before. I have slept with guys and regretted it. Strangely, it never occured to me to make a false rape accusation, have the guy arrested, and put myself through a grueling and humiliating investigation and trial. Nope, I just can't see sending some innocent guy to prison for several years because I regretted having sex with him. Since I bet most other women feel the same way I do, I tend to believe that women who accuse men of rape do so because they were actually raped by them.
That means someone is full of shit in that thread. Methinks it's the one who says drunk women are asking for it.

...whether she is successful or not--it's a great precedent to set, challenging this crap. I wish her every success with this!
Yuck on that thread... :puke: Staying out of there. But as usual thanks so much for the link. Helping me round out my ignore list nicely. ;)

9. This attitude is still so prevalent and this judge's ruling does not help matters |
|
Women who are intoxicated are viewed as 'fair game', as evidenced by the morans weighing in on that thread. So a victim is already facing the perception that what happened wasn't rape. And then to not even be able to use the word at the trial. Why bother with it? Basically, it's open season on women.
