SugarDaddy.com: Old Dogs, New Tricks

"Few things are less appetizing than a man four years my father's junior, a dumpy, pasty, greedy-eyed man in a gray suit who says he doesn't care to screw fat women because they're harder to overpower, asking me over a big bowl of warm apple crisp if I like anal sex. But since he's just offered me $3,000 a month plus perks—gifts, dinners, shopping sprees—to get naked with him once a week, I keep my tight young ass in its place, laugh politely, and pick up my fork.

I learned about SugarDaddy.com when an acquaintance I'll call "Kim" recommended it to my friend, who's had trouble finding a job despite (or because of) earning her master's in media arts several months ago. Kim collected $900 every time she went on a date with one of her sugar daddies; another gave her $3,500 in less than a week before announcing that he had to quit her because his wife had found out. Kim's best friend "Jill" had two sugar daddies giving her a combined $8,000 a month until one got jealous of the other. Jill has blond hair, amazing lips, and is
19"
----Snip--------------------------------------

"My friend of the disheartening post-graduate-school job search initially scowls when I tell her what Daddy No. 2 offered me. When I point out that it took me two days to get two offers that pay more than my job at Mother Jones, that I could make $9,600 a month—$115,200 a year—and the average starting salary for someone with humanities masters' like ours is $39,808, she sighs, "I really don't know if I could stand banging some disgusting creep for money. But there are really some pretty compelling reasons to try."

It is the same sentiment that I've elicited from a lawyer, who says, "I paid 100 grand to go to law school, and I could make more money on my back," the same response I get from an executive assistant, a service-industry worker, and a teacher, who hold five degrees between them. Even Rosen, after asking me how much I'm "worth," exclaims, "That's a lot! Think about your income. Think about mine. I'm not advocating this; I'm just saying I can understand the calculations"

I have no comment at this time.

1. I read that in the print edition.
:puke:

I hope thousands of curious gawkers are using up their bandwidth and crashing their servers.

It's amazingly obvious in that article that these men view sex as a transaction. They're buying pleasure, and women are just a product that provides it.

2. It's so much more crass than that.
If only they were buying pleasure. That would be bad enough. These women are akin to Rolex watches to them. Status objects. I don't even think pleasure enters into it.

3. Why, pray tell, is this shit in MoJo?
Please don't tell me that this is going to be portrayed as another "trend that is sweeping the nation!!" The media looooves to extrapolate something that affects .005% of the female population to all of us. If a handful of upper class women in Manhattan or Beverly Hills are "opting out" of their careers, well then we all are and this proves that feminism failed!

And when a handful of young and conventionally attractive women decide that it's easier and more lucrative to become the personal prostitutes of wealthy old geezers, well then...you know.

:argh:

Et tu, Mother Jones?

7. I'm not sure
I get the print edition like Thomcat, and was kind of taken aback by the tone of the article. The whole "I can make more laying on my back" bullshit irritates me no end.

I can make a lot of money by oh, say robbing banks, running scams, fencing stolen property, selling drugs, pimping out dumbasses. All kinds of illegal or quasi-legal activities. ( I developed a conscience somewhere over the years though, I CARE who I hurt these days, how many of these men are married with kids?) Much more money that "laying on my back" actually.

Instead I work my ass off as a nurse in a job I love and am very good at. I have a future that challenges as well as beckons me. And this is a so-called "traditional woman's role"-- I get to be a part of ripping up the misconceptions of women and nursing and redefining nursing for what it really is, and really does. So go figure.

I dunno the answer to this one. Money is important, but I'd pimp someone out before I'd sleep with some asshole for money and I would never pimp someone out. Like the pimp/s who runs the website. Think they're "laying on their back?"

4. I hate what our culture does to
women...I guess it's every culture.

Maybe there is something to be said for living a life as a hermit...I wonder if there any communities out there made of women living a fairly decent self-sustaining way of life???

I guess Retirement Communities become women-dominated. The men seem to die off earlier. I wonder if the laws allow a community to be 'women only.' And old women at that? Over 55? Which I am looking at come next week...double nickels! Isn't there a song where 55 is screamed? But I think it was referring to 55 miles/hour...lol.

I need a vacation!
