I really love...
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 07:13 PM by bliss_eternal
...ignore. Thank you to those here that were open in sharing how frequently you use it. I really feel set free by using this feature more frequently.

It helps to simply not read the main forums. But on the rare occasions I want to post, and someone feels compelled to "put in me in my place" (:eyes:) for daring to express an opinion. In such cases, ignore is a wonderful thing.

Thanks, again!

1. I don't have anyone on ignore at the moment...
But there are times when I've been tempted.

It helps to stay out of GD:p... and GD for the most part, but you can occasionally find some interesting stuff on there.

I really hope I'm not on anyone's ignore list... I know some of my opinions are unpopular but I try to debate repectfully and not seriously offend anybody.

5. Naw...
...I don't get the sense that you're a "baiter." One of those people hell bent on getting people to argue with you. :eyes: Or those that say really offensive things and don't seem to care that it's racist, sexist, homophobic and just inhumane in general. :scared: Those make my head hurt.

17. Thanks.
Like I said, I really try not to seriously offend people. I just like a good debate once in a while.

2. There is a graphics forum
where I put people on ignore for posting racist/sexist/homophobic stuff. That makes more of a political statement than it would here, though, because people can see who has their posts blocked, and they can look at someone else's profile and see how many people are ignoring that person.

I have over 300 people on ignore there. This is a much larger forum - I can't imagine what my list would look like here if I did the same. :D

I have 3 people here just blocked from sending me private messages. I love that feature.

4. Yikes....
that sounds like a scary forum. But at least you have the option to ignore the bigoted, sexist graphics. :scared:
300 is a helluva long list. LOL!

I had some blocked for pm's--but found they were banned eventually, and removed them.

I've lost a lot of patience on DU. I used to try to "explain" and "teach" the obviously uninformed. But I'm over that.

People that call me names, insist that I'm "lying" because my world view takes reality into consideration(:eyes:), and are hell bent on baiting me into an argument go on ignore. I get the sense a lot of people here just NEED to argue. They can fulfill their fighting fetish elsewhere---I'm not having it.

7. There are some sick people here
Or immature, I'm not sure which. Maybe one or both. Possibly just ignorant. It goes way beyond a simple difference of opinion. I don't use the ignore feature, but I do ignore certain posters, and lots of threads. I like to cruise around, I still find interesting information here.

One I especially dislike, is also an idiot in other forums outside GD.

I was greatly amused to find out what the little creep is really, is a pretty good bullshitter. Probably a Wikipedia warrior, but full of shit nonetheless.

Anyway, it's a sad world when people go out their way to defend the indefensible. I actually have--or had, a conservative/libertarian book with that title. "Defending the Indefensible". I can't find it now, but it was the kind of unthinking free for all you find here when sexism or racism comes up.

8. Exactly.
How interesting that you found a DU'er is also a serial internet creep. lol. I've suspected as much about some people here--that their days are filled with trolling the cyber world pushing others buttons. Sad.

Talking w/one of our member's, I shared my observation that people make sociopathic arguments on du. I wish I was possessed that knowledge when I started visiting this board--it would have saved me a lot of frustration. Or maybe, I needed to go there to learn that lesson.... Oh well.

There's something surreal about sitting back and watching some try to "reason" with members, that are clearly comfortable arguing from the positions of rapists, hate group members, serial killers and sociopaths in general. :scared: Reason is a foreign language to people like that, one beyond their comprehension.

3. My ignore list is growing
Mostly for gender and sexuality based slurs. I think I'm up to around 200 or so. I miss a lot of the flame bait threads that way. Never even see 'em.

I've also started ignoring people who post *crap* - mostly vile slurs that are straight out of the right wing playbook -- against any of the candidates.

I'm quite surprised that most of them are the supposed "unifier" Obama supporters. I really thought they'd be more civil. But I suppose anything goes when you're trying to stop an evil bitch! ::sarcasm::

9. My Ignore list continues to grow. It should break 300 by the end of the primary season.
There are some parts of this site I really like. But most of it is a racist, misogynist cess pit.

12. Most of the offenders are newcomers to the Lounge, persistent fuckwits in GD: Politics,
and assholes in LBN.

There is someone around here—I don't want to name names, but I believe she's in one of the candidate support forums—who once admitted to me that she had 450+ names on her Ignore list. So, no, I don't think there's a limit. Better not be.

...450?! That's epic. Can you imagine?

You're more patient than I--such an admirable quality. I don't know how you manage to navigate the murky waters of the lounge, without raising your blood pressure. Bless you for trying to offer them some culture, in the way of feminist poetry.

I've decided to no longer tolerate:

1. The purposely contrary and disagreeable--those that refuse to actually read your post, choosing instead to infer you are the anti-christ because "they say so." :eyes: This category also includes the ignorant and reactionary. Those that choose to react to what they imagine you are saying, based on their own issues.

2. The rude, haughty, condescending and unnecessarily authoritative. Clearly they have issues that make them need to appear "better than" the masses. Fuck that shit. I hate posters that have to write fuckin' monologues laced with legal or medical jargon followed by comments like, "understand what I'm saying, girlie?" :eyes:

3. The sick people. Anyone that uses the arguments of sociopaths, is sick in my book. You know, the ones that are probably wearing a white sheet or a swastika arm-band while posting. There's a confederate flag on their wall and they're surrounded by a violent porn collection. If I don't make the time to talk to people like that in the real world, why should I on line?

;) :hi: You KNOW I wasn't talking about you. Length isn't my issue. It's the tone and content.

I think we all remember a certain someone that infiltrated our board. Every response was a damned novella, going on ad nauseum about how "misunderstood" he was. He that shall remain un-named wrote the most epic, dismissive piles of arrogant, pseudo authoritative, holier than thou trash I've ever forced myself to read. He managed to somehow create posts that were condescending in tone, while contradictory in content.

10. The reactionary and the contrary...
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 10:06 PM by bliss_eternal
Example of original post-- "The sky is so blue today. I love looking at blue sky!"

Response A: What the fuck!?! :grr::mad: Try again, strawman. Duh! The sky is NOT blue, today or any other day--such a liar!

Response B: Um, no one cares about your blue sky. Some people don't have a blue sky to look at, it's all brown and
dingy with pollution from the local refinery, and there's a constant dark haze. How dare you brag about your precious blue sky.
I just had my third asthma attack this week, because of the lack of "blue sky." Insensitive, jack-ass!

Response C:

Response D: Link, please...? Prove the sky is blue.

Response E: Oh, and when the sky isn't blue you dislike it? Is that what you're saying?
What kind of progressive are you? On this board whining about blue sky...where's your petition? Why aren't you calling your senators to complain about the air pollution?! Has your city gone green, yet...? Do you even recycle....?

(sigh) :( :banghead:

16. "Prove the sky is blue."
Those types are the ones driving me up the wall the most. Especially when it is clear they know goddamned well what "color" the "sky" is and are just being passive-aggressive (or worse).

22. The antagonistic....
...and the passive aggressive baiters really make my head hurt. I don't blame you at all for ignoring them.

Like you, I have little patience for them, and they almost always go ignore. Sometimes I don't put them on right away, as I suspect they are trolling. But if it becomes clear mods don't see them as I do--ignore becomes my friend. ;)

19. There is a thread that shall remain unnamed
With posters using that logic right now. I keep coming back here, looking at your logic structure, then going back to certain posts, and thinking, uh yup. 'Nother one.

You should start your own thread with that as the subject line. "The sky is so blue today, I love looking at blue sky. For entertainment purposes of course.

;-)

...prior to your suggestion. Strictly for entertainment purposes. It never ceases to amaze me, just how many actively seek arguments. It's kind of fascinating.

I forgot to add those that take joy in instigating, to my list. I've placed a few of those on ignore. Instigators tend to either be sycophants, backing up their buddies ("oh man, you told her", or modern day imps, those that derive pleasure in shit stirring. The shit stirrers rarely post anything of substance, just popcorn smileys and snarky ass comments in thread after thread. No one misses anything by placing them on ignore.
