Yet another murder
For a few years now, I've wanted to highlight the terrorism women face in their lives every single day. My plan was to have a website where I would link to stories from all fifty states when a woman was murdered for being a woman - mostly when murdered by her male significant other but also stranger rape/muder, kidnapping/murder, and stalking/murder.

Our concerns over the misogynistic society we live in are laughed off. We're told we're hysterical. We're told we should fear terrorists when the real terrorists for women at least, are among us.

I've put aside the project because it is just too daunting.

But I think I'm going to link every single DU post about daily murders perpetrated against women.

I'm not online enough to catch them all. Feel free to help by posting to this thread.

First one coming up.

I'm going to try not to comment on them - most are too rage inspiring and I'm trying to just list cold hard facts.

4. Police in Nevada Hunt a Serial Rapist
RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 19-year-old college student missing since she was abducted nearly a month ago was strangled by a serial rapist who has attacked at least two other women and may strike again, Reno police said Saturday.

An autopsy confirmed that a dead woman found Friday in a brush-covered field near a business park was Brianna Denison and that she died of strangulation, Reno Deputy Police Chief Jim Johns said.

Her body had been in the field for more than a week about 8 miles from the house where she last was seen early Jan. 20 at the edge of the University of Nevada, Reno, he said.

"I would say this is a serial rapist," Johns said at a news conference. "We have two, probably three (cases) linked through DNA."

"The totality of the information in this case leads us to believe it is a sexually motivated crime," he said. "I'm worried this guy is still out there, and I'm worried somebody else is going to get hurt."

Hope these are appropriate. If not, let me know, and I'll request this post is deleted. These were posted here months ago and are now floating off to the archives.

Not sure if you are also interested in cases like this, about a cop's wife that disappeared (and at this point, probably presumed dead). Oh, this was his fourth wife. Number three was found dead. :eyes:

12. Heartbreaking...
...I suspect her husband insured there would be no body found this time. :( :grr::mad: That guy looks (and sounds) like a total creep.

Glad there's a site up for her (I think that I linked to her story in my post, above yours).

9. I'm surprised we don't use the term femicide
which I first read in Ms. magazine.

Every other sort of murder has a specific term. Parricide, fratricide, homicide, suicide, infantcide--but what about femicide?

Cases like this tend to fly under the radar. I'm surprised I even heard about this, because with the mainstream media, that usually isn't the case.

11. In my city alone:
25 unsolved murders of women:

http://www.unsolvedcanada.ca/index.php/topic,1644.0.html

(Originally published in the Toronto Star - the original article costs money to view).

The Cassandra Do case particularly saddens me. Pretty much becuase there's this one community center I go to quite a bit, and right when you go in, you see this big poster asking for anyone with information on her murder to come forward. It's been there for years and her case is still unsolved. It got almost no media coverage - and I really wonder, if it did, would it have been solved by now?
