Congratulations! And.... an apology. |

Wow, I really LIKE the Mission Statement. Congrats on getting such a terrific one crafted. Congratulations also on what looks like some terrific discussions. I think I'm going to love this group.
I do want to apologize for my behavior in the thread (in Women's Issues Forum?) discussing creating this group. I was way over the top and NOT helpful, and I apologize especially to Lukashero (sp?) on whom I was especially -- and unnecessarily -- hard, I think.
I promise to behave better here.
I think the reason I overreacted is that feminism/sexism are very important subjects to me, so I was crushingly disappointed that anything like the fluff women's Group could be started before there was any real feminist presence here at DU (esp with all the abounding sexism also at DU), and when this one sounded just a little too limiting, I blew a gasket.
Again, sorry.

You are one of the veterans from the Equal Rights movement and we can all benefit from your experience. You guys blazed the trail, we just followed your lead. :patriot:

I invited you into the discussion about forming this Group and you came on like an asshole. Denigrating other people for their "different" take on things feminist.
We all have bad days and we all can misinterpret other people's intentions on the internet because we are only dealing with black letters on a white background forming words. No facial expressions. No body language. Sarcasm is completely lost in most of my threads. (I guess we are supposed to use the dripping sarcasm smiley for that, but sometimes it is absurd we even have to do that.)
Women and men alike have days where posting at DU is a drain, a defiance, a mis-placed sentiment when other awful things are going on in our "real" lives. I admit to being guilty of doing that.
I'm glad you seem to "approve" of this Group Eloriel. But remember, we don't all view life in exactly the same way, and we are not all going to be forwarding the same position.
I think the intense outpouring so far in this Group is amazing! In the past I really thought Groups were dividing DU into cliques. (Still do kindof.) But I bet you dollars to donuts that there are more female posters on DU than male, and this Group will bring the rest of DU up-to-date on what sexism really is about.
I accept your apology.

5. Appreciated but unnecessary |

We were all working under duress in that other forum. The limits were supposed to be on the "disruptors", not the feminists. (You'll note the "hey go easy on the nice guys" stuff was never in nor even considered to be part of the mission statement. It was more concern for that thread and this group not to get shut down before it had a chance to happen.)
It feels good here and I'm really glad you've joined us. I know I expect to learn a lot from you. It's been a good day.
Thanks.
