Joy of Cooking & Yazoo & Dan Hicks & his Hot Licks

A friend of mine just turned me on to the 60's-'70's band "Joy of Cooking". If I had every heard of them, the memory got lost in my metal/punk years.

Anyway, I'm listening to them and went looking for anything on youtube. I found this little compilation of three different bands; some interesting stuff. (I could have done without the "King Kong" footage though)

1. Um, I think that comment about Dan and the ape thing

actually has some basis. Detail from the back cover of "Where's The Money?"



Version of "Canned Music" from "Original Recordings" with Sherry Snow and Christina Gancher as Lickettes.

Some of the footage is from a film (old-tyme music video) of "Jukies' Ball", also on "Original Recordings", the bandshell footage is Dallas 1972.

2. In that context, yeah you're right

Any old 'King Kong' movie footage makes me uncomfortable I guess, because of racist connotations-- which was not the intent of the video, of course.


I'm in love the the band, and feel 40 years cheated!
