Hey, look! 87% of Wikipedia's contributors are men. |

I like wiki but some of the articles are full of male bias. I like to go and read the 'talk pages'-- that's where the battles take place. I could just see trying to use something, oh say Max Dachu (from suppressed histories) as a anthropological source. Collective heads would explode.

2. read a study on du... more men more weight after marriage than women |
|
there was a thread on du talking about women that get fat after marrieage. same old tired. so i googled men and women weight gain after marriage....
i got
why do women get fat after marriage.... page after page.
so i did study of men and women
got.... why do women get fat
so i did men weight gain after marriage
why do women get fat
my son and i are busting up. he says let me, i am good at googlin. (admittedly, i am lousy)
and still he got
why do women....
i am looking at google without women anywhere in the search and still page after page was about women. i have found this many times when googling. what is up? i dont get it.
hubby suggested i type in search
why do women get fat. i laughed but was sure that would be exactly what i got, page after page.

3. Google loves to think that their algorith predicts what |
|
people are searching for. They link related words together based on what they think people want. That just goes to show you that in their "infinite wisdom" the word "fat" is inherently linked to the word "woman." Didn't you know that only women get fat? :eyes:
I've been getting more and more disgusted with Google. For a company that's motto is "do no evil" it certainly seems like they don't really mean it.

but i have noticed more and more how it is demanding i go in a direction i dont want to go. so often i am googlin gender issues and i see such a huge bias on what i am given. so many things, i ask specifically for, i am given the conditioned want of society.
thank you for affirming this for me.

With gender and sexuality issues. And if you're not careful you get a page full of really bad porn.
I just googled "Fat women". First hit was pictures of, third one down, porn, then, Weight loss plans, self esteem interspersed with more porn sites.
Next I googled "Fat Men" first one was pictures of, including youtube. Second one? Get ready...an article "Fat men are better in bed" The rest fashion tips and weight loss plans and mens health. Evidently no market for fat man porn.
I add very specific words to my searching when dealing with gender, google doesn't like it, but I can usually weed out SOME crap. Not very much though

unhealthy manner. in the past generations there were certainly problems between the gender. but there was not a tool like internet that could allow such a mass conditioning of disrespect for our gender.

7. You really might want to diversify and try other search engines |
|
to see if or when they give you different or better search results. That, all by itself, might be an interesting study of the bias in search results when doing gender related searches.
There is:
www.google.com
www.bing.com
www.altavista.com Used to specialize in finding graphics, but now seems more generalized.
www.ask.com
www.yahoo.com
www.cuil.com (pronounced "cool")
www.alltheweb.com Owned by yahoo, but gives different results.
www.gigablast.com A search engine that allows entering logical parameters on your search, and the company is powered by clean energy.
www.dogpile.com Gives you a single search that compiles the results from the big 4 search engines.
