How many of you have seen this picture?
*****
Jamie Lee Curtis wants to expose herself to you. It is, she says, the only way to make things right.

Look at her, traipsing around a whitewashed Los Angeles photo studio in nothing but a sports bra and tight spandex briefs. But don't let the swagger fool you: She knows she's taking a risk. The 43-year-old movie star has certainly shown more skin in the past than she's flashing right now. But in a very real way, she's never been more naked.

"There's a reality to the way I look without my clothes on," she says. "I don't have great thighs. I have very big breasts and a soft, fatty little tummy. And I've got back fat. People assume that I'm walking around in little spaghetti-strap dresses. It's insidious -- Glam Jamie, the Perfect Jamie, the great figure, blah, blah, blah. And I don't want the unsuspecting 40-year-old women of the world to think that I've got it going on. It's such a fraud. And I'm the one perpetuating it."

But not anymore. In an age when divas often use their clout to nix unflattering photos in magazines, Curtis has demanded the opposite: Glam Jamie will pose only if Real Jamie gets equal time. She even knows what this article should be titled. "'True Thighs,'" she declares.

A glam Jamie gets some help.

Okay, I'm no fan of celebrities but I have always admired her for doing this. It took real guts, IMHO.

And it is a smashing success, eh?
I love JLC for doing this photo.

11. I remember her
saying that the photographer was just horrified and didn't want to do the shoot. She also said they called her several times to try to talk her into touch-ups, but she wouldn't budge.:)

4. We need more of this
Women who look real, not women who are so glamorized, airbrushed, and distorted that young girls and women feel the need to starve themselves and spend millions of dollars a year on clothes, makeup and other products to try to look like idealized images that aren't even real.

12. Yes, a lot more.
She made a lot of women very happy by doing this.
I wonder if she knows what an impact this has on us.
I hope so, she's got guts.

5. I saw that and loved it.
What's sad is seeing it done only to female actors by the papparazi while they're out without their makeup... they always make sure to point out how awful and shocking and horrible these women look without the facepaint.

Sickening, that is.

devoted to those surprise celebrity photos.
It is sickening.

6. I only read about this, never actually saw it. Cool.
Why can't more people from the Hollywood crowd be willing to do this?

13. I agree, my respect for her went way up after I saw that.
But of course she doesn't get good acting roles anymore. Doesn't it irritate you that Harrison Ford still plays sexy dude parts and has sex with women that could be his daughter/grand-daughter in movies, yet there are zero female counterparts to that?

BTW, I really like Harrison, I just find it depressing.

14. Irritates the hell out of me.
It clearly communicates -- not just movies but all visual cues -- that unattractive men are A-OK... unattractive women don't rate mentioning their existence (unless of course you need a villain or other unsavory character). Deesgusting.

15. Exactly.
And let's talk money. Meryl Streep is one of the best actors, ever. How many awards has she won? Yet since she turned oh, say 35, I wonder how her salary compares to Harrison's? Is it because he is still a good actor and she isn't anymore? Is it because no one writes scripts for women over 35? Gee, who writes those scripts? Who produces movies? Who runs the studios?

17. Yes, once again, women are shortchanged because they're women.
It's sad that so few even pay much attention. People I talk to just say "well, that's life" and ignore it. I've lost friends because I sometimes won't just let it go... I'll push it by asking if these people want something better for their daughters or are they happy consigning them to live in the same fucked up world as we do... then they get defensive and no longer speak to me because I'm pushy. *sigh*

16. Yep, the old double standard.
Most of the actresses say they can't find work after 40.
There are many beautiful older actresses, look at Ellen Burstyn.

Oh yeah, I love Harrison Ford too.

18. What's funny is that, to me, in many ways,
she looks BETTER without all the fiddling. She looks great! Plastic people with perfect airbrushing look like Barbie dolls to me.

She is still very beautiful and she knows it.
