Small Mississippi town elects majority woman council,

LIBERTY — Liberty got its first-ever majority female board of aldermen Tuesday as Cissy Canova, incumbent Carolyn Cruise and Lenora Morgan were elected.

Also winning seats were incumbent Aubrey Blalock and Paul Picard.

The positions are at-large, with the top five vote-getters winning.

Blalock led a field of 10 candidates with 182 votes (16 percent), followed by Canova with 161 votes (14 percent), Cruise with 152, Morgan with 143 and Picard with 142, according to unofficial returns.

3. It's not my town...I live outside any city limits..

So I went to the little town closest to me for the vote count Tuesday night. Our little town ended up with a black mayor and a biracial council, also with a woman on it. Everyone, black and white, was hopeful that we would have a very good four years. :D
